The Boer and Kalahari breeds I recently encountered at Green Livestock Africa are truly impressive animals. We’re talking about goats comfortably weighing 70 kg and above, with solid bone structure, broad chests, and remarkable body mass.
Their level of commitment to professional goat farming is admirable. You can clearly see intentional breeding, proper feeding programs, and disciplined herd management at work. I’ll be sharing videos soon, although I must confess, videos may still struggle to capture the true size and presence of these goats in reality.
For breeders planning crossbreeding, this is very important: when introducing Boer or Kalahari genetics into another breed, ensure your foundation animals are already strong, fertile, and structurally sound. Elite genetics amplify what already exists. If the base animal is weak, the result will disappoint regardless of the breed used.
In goat breeding, success is rarely accidental. Genetics provide the potential, but nutrition, health management, and consistent selection are what turn that potential into performance.
