This is Black Pod Disease. The silent killer of cocoa harvests. π«β οΈ
Caused by the fungus Phytophthora palmivora β the most destructive cocoa disease in West Africa.
High humidity and rainfall create the perfect condition for it to spread fast, from one pod to your entire farm before you know it.
How to fight it:
β
Spray with copper-based fungicide (Copper Hydroxide or Ridomil)
β
Prune your canopy to reduce humidity and improve air circulation
β
Remove and destroy infected pods immediately (never leave them on the ground)
Your harvest is only as safe as your last spray. πͺπΎ
