This is Black Pod Disease. The silent killer of cocoa harvests. 🍫⚠️

Caused by the fungus Phytophthora palmivora β€” the most destructive cocoa disease in West Africa.

High humidity and rainfall create the perfect condition for it to spread fast, from one pod to your entire farm before you know it.

How to fight it:
βœ… Spray with copper-based fungicide (Copper Hydroxide or Ridomil)
βœ… Prune your canopy to reduce humidity and improve air circulation
βœ… Remove and destroy infected pods immediately (never leave them on the ground)

Your harvest is only as safe as your last spray. πŸ’ͺ🏾

🌿 Get the spacing wrong, and there will be issues."

This farm was planted in February. 2 meters by 3 meters β€” not random, not guesswork. Cocoyam fills the 2-meter gaps. Corn is going in along the 3-meter rows. One piece of land, three crops, zero waste.

It's 2.6 and sometimes 2.7 tons 0f cassava

From an acre of land, you should harvest 4 pick up of this size
Even sometimes more
That will be N2,000,000

Many people rushed to plant cassava in year 2025 and even that year 2024 cause they expect the price to keep going up

But Yoruba saying " Eni ti o mo ojo Owo lol ni Owo"

At present as i write, the same pick up now sells for less than N70,000

Yes. You read well

Now imagine those people that have taken loan to plant cassava with the expectation of N500,000 or even more

Or the farmer that refuse to plant anything but cassava in the last year

And the calculation as it is now is that cassava price will go up after election or by the end of the election year because many farmers will be too disappointed to plant cassava again this year 2026
