There have been news circulating of late about most foods to avoid because of kidney problems in Nigeria, this should be of concern to any lover of humanity, most of these campaigners against certain foods have added bread! Sincerely, bread production in Nigeria should be of concern due to some practices that are unwholesome, which seems to vindicate those propagating the campaign against eating of bread.
Last weekend, I completed my course on food safety in the food laboratory of a front-line production company in Düsseldorf Germany, I am super happy that what I took home is more of the very standard with which Lovebite was founded on since 2019, we understudied the following:
• German bread making procedure.
• The ingredients in bread making.
• The quantity allowed and the machines used in production.
Food safety is all about producing food that will not in any way pose danger (both in the short, medium and long term) to the consumer.
The production environment must be conditioned to eliminate contamination.
Workers must be tested to ensure that they are medically fit, machines should all be made with food grade stainless steel, (SUS 316 or SUS 304) and the ingredients must all be certified!
The major issue with most bread in Nigeria is the adding of dangerous ingredients so as to make gain, the worst being the use of excessive preservatives or non food grade preservatives for bread making.
In Lovebite, our bread under normal room temperature from production to storage last only seven days, we use the NAFDAC recommended quantity of calcium propionate (food grade preservative) and the elimination of mould in the factory to achieve this!
But under hot condition, our product can only last for 4 days!
We have a return policy that encourages our distributors and retailers to return any bread that stays more than 6 days back to us for replacement. This practice have been in place since the inception of Lovebite in 2019.
Currently, with our production capacity of around 250,000 loaves of 1kg bread weekly, we receive and replace up to 2000 loaves that have overstayed 6 days every week, especially now that is down sales season!
We also educate and encourage our customers and consumers to buy bread that they will finish within few days! And to avoid any bread brand whose marketing stunt is to advertise that their products stays for weeks without spoiling!
If however one need her bread to last longer, refrigerating from the first day of purchase is advised!
Mould in bread is a big source of food poisoning and contamination that can lead to health challenges!
Eat Lovebite for assurance of best practice!
Eat the best, Be the best!.
