At least five worshippers abducted during the bloody invasion of ECWA Church, Omugo in Oro Ago District, Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State are now feared dead in terrorist captivity, according to emerging reports and an escapee who managed to flee from the armed group.
Sources familiar with the situation told Afrika Eyes that among those reportedly killed is the wife of the minister in charge of the church, identified as Pastor Omole, alongside four other abductees.
One of the sources disclosed that, “reports that five of the Omugo abductees have died in captivity,” adding that the exact circumstances surrounding their deaths remain unclear.
No details of how and where they died,” the source further stated, quoting information obtained from an escapee who had earlier been held by the bandits.
The source also revealed that the tragic development has already been communicated to the families of the victims.
“The sad news has been broken to families of the deceased,” the source said, noting that relatives were left devastated by the confirmation.
Recall that on 22 March 2026, armed gunmen stormed ECWA Church Omugo during a Sunday service, unleashing terror on worshippers in Oro Ago District.
Eyewitness accounts described how the attackers fired sporadically inside and around the church premises to disperse the congregation before abducting worshippers into the surrounding forest.
At least eight worshippers were initially confirmed abducted during the raid.
Most of the victims were elderly congregants, with police authorities previously confirming that the majority were above 70 years of age.
In the days following the attack, the kidnappers reportedly contacted families of the victims and demanded a ransom of ₦1 billion for their release.
The demand was later reduced during negotiations, according to sources familiar with the matter.
Despite this, reports indicate that families were able to raise and deliver about ₦20 million, alongside assorted food items and hot drinks requested by the abductors.
However, the abductees were still not released.
Security agencies had earlier confirmed that coordinated operations were ongoing to rescue the remaining victims and track down the perpetrators responsible for the attack.
As of the time of filing this report, authorities have yet to officially confirm the alleged deaths of the five abductees, while families continue to await clarity amid growing fears of a tragic outcome in captivity.
