Love for God Implies Love for His Word

Beloved, let me talk to you from the heart this morning.
We all say “I love God.” But love is not just a feeling we sing about on Sunday. Love shows itself. And Jesus Himself gave us the test of real love.
John 14:23-24
_"If anyone loves me, he will keep my word... Whoever does not love me does not keep my words."_
Did you hear that?
Love for God implies love for His Word.
You cannot separate God from His Word. His Word is Him speaking. To reject His Word is to reject the One who spoke it.
1. Love listens to the Word
When you truly love someone, you pay attention when they talk.
John 10:27 _"My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me."_
If God is your Father, you will have an appetite for what He says. You won’t say “the Bible is too long” or “that scripture is too hard.” A lover leans in. David said in Psalm 119:97 – _"Oh how I love your law! It is my meditation all the day."_
Question: Do you love to hear God, or do you only love what God can do for you?
2. Love obeys the Word
Love is not “I feel God in my heart” while living anyhow.
_1 John 5:3 _"For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome."_
Abraham loved God, so when God said “Look at the stars, so shall your seed be” — he believed it. _Genesis 15:6_
Jesus loved the Father, so He said _“Not my will, but yours be done.”_ _Luke 22:42_
Obedience is love in work clothes. If we only pick the scriptures we like and ignore the ones that correct us, that’s not love. That’s preference.
3. Love hides the Word in the heart
_Psalm 119:11 _"I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you."_
Why? Because when temptation comes, when fear comes, when delay comes — it is the Word you have inside that will hold you.
Joseph in the pit for 13 years, Moses in the wilderness for 40 years, Jesus waiting 30 years... what kept them? The promise God had spoken.
If you don’t know the Word, the enemy will lie to you. But if you love the Word, you will answer him as Jesus did: _“It is written...”_ _Matthew 4:4_
The Danger of Saying “I Love God” But Hating His Word
You cannot claim to love the Husband but tear up the love letters He wrote you.
The Bible is God’s love letter to us.
_2 Timothy 3:16 _"All Scripture is breathed out by God..."
To ignore the Bible is to tell God, “I don’t really want to hear You.”
Closing Charge
Church, let’s be honest.
How much of our time goes to social media, news, and gossip... compared to the Word?
How quick are we to quote “God will do it” but slow to ask “What did God actually say?”
Real love for God will always run back to His Word.
Because in His Word we find His will, His comfort, His correction, and His power.
Joshua 1:8 _"This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night..."_
Today, ask God: “Lord, give me a hunger for Your Word. Let me not just love Your blessings. Let me love You in Your Word.”
Prayer:
Father, forgive us for treating Your Word lightly. Create in us a heart that loves You, and because we love You, we will love and live by Your Word. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
