⚠️IMPORTANT UPDATE FOR FARMERS⚠️

Following the recent alert from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) on possible flooding and disease outbreaks in some states, we at Agric Pro Farms and Services want to share a quick advise to farmers planning to plant this period.

Heavy rainfall is good—but excessive water can damage young seedlings if not properly managed.

For those planting oil palm, coconut, suckers and other seedlings:

• Avoid transplanting into waterlogged soils
• Ensure proper drainage in your field
• Do not allow seedlings to sit in stagnant water (this can lead to root rot)
• Use clean water sources when handling seedlings to avoid contamination
• If your area is prone to flooding, it’s better to delay planting for a bit

Healthy seedlings + proper timing = better yield in the long run.

Common Mistakes When Planting Oil Palm Seedlings (Please Avoid These!)
Many farmers plant oil palm and still get poor yield. Not because the crop is bad, but because of simple mistakes.
Below are the most common ones:

1. Planting the Wrong Seedlings
Not all oil palm seedlings are the same.
Using local or even fake seedlings instead of Tenera hybrid can reduce your yield drastically.
👉 Always buy from a trusted source.

2. Poor Spacing
Planting too close together leads to competition for sunlight and nutrients, or too far apart waste valuable space.
👉 The recommended spacing for oil palm is 9 meters triangular spacing, which allows for about 150 palms per hectare.

3. Improper Planting Depth
Planting too deep or too shallow affects growth.
👉 The seedling should be planted at the same level as it was in the nursery bag.

4. Wrong Planting Time
Planting at the wrong season can stress or even kill young seedlings.
