Fake Guardians, Real Guns: How ‘Vigilantes’ Turned Shuttle Bus Into Robbery Trap in Anambra

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested five suspected armed robbers who allegedly posed as vigilante operatives to rob unsuspecting passengers traveling in a shuttle bus within the state. The arrest has exposed a dangerous tactic increasingly used by criminals to exploit public trust in community security outfits.

According to police authorities, the suspects disguised themselves as members of a local vigilante group, complete with outfits and conduct meant to appear official. By presenting themselves as security operatives, they were able to stop and board a commercial shuttle bus, assuring passengers they were carrying out a routine security operation.

Once inside the vehicle, the suspects reportedly revealed their true intentions. Armed with dangerous weapons, they threatened passengers and forcibly collected valuables, including mobile phones, cash, and other personal belongings. The robbery caused panic among the passengers, some of whom initially complied out of fear for their lives.

Police said the suspects’ activities came to light following intelligence reports and complaints from members of the public who noticed a pattern of robberies involving individuals claiming to be vigilante operatives. Acting on the information, operatives of the Anambra State Police Command launched a targeted operation that led to the arrest of the five suspects.

During the arrest, security operatives reportedly recovered incriminating items believed to have been used in carrying out the crimes. Preliminary investigations suggest that the suspects may be linked to similar incidents in other parts of the state, raising concerns that more victims may yet come forward.

The Police Command condemned the act, describing it as a serious threat to public safety and an abuse of the trust placed in legitimate vigilante groups that assist law enforcement in maintaining security. Officials warned that criminals disguising themselves as security personnel not only endanger lives but also undermine community-based policing efforts.

The command urged residents to remain vigilant and to verify the identity of anyone claiming to be a security operative, especially during stop-and-search activities. Citizens were advised to cooperate only with recognized security agencies and to report suspicious movements or impersonation immediately to the police.

Police authorities reassured the public of their commitment to protecting lives and property across Anambra State, stressing that efforts are ongoing to dismantle criminal networks operating under false identities. The suspects are expected to be charged to court after the conclusion of investigations.

NewsBREAKING: Ex-Anambra governor, Chris Ngige arrested in Abuja

A former Anambra State governor, Chris Ngige, has been arrested in Abuja.

The immediate past Minister of Labour and Employment is currently with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

This was confirmed in a statement obtained by DAILY POST on Wednesday night and signed by his former media aide, Fred Chukwulobe.

Chukwulobe dispelled the rumours circulating online that Ngige had been kidnapped.

He said, “Former Governor of Anambra State and immediate past minister of labour and employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, is with the EFCC. More details later.”

Ngige was also in the news recently after his convoy was attacked by armed men in Anambra State. He was not present in the vehicle at the time of the attack.

Nnamdi Kanu suffers first setback in suit seeking his transfer from Sokoto prison

The Federal High Court in Abuja has turned down the request of Biafra nation agitator, Nnamdi Kanu, seeking transfer from Sokoto prison to either Kuje prison in the Federal Capital Territory or Keffi prison in Nasarawa State

Kanu had filed an ex-parte application through the Legal Aid Council, praying the court to approve his request without hearing from the Federal Government.

He sought an order compelling the Federal Government and/or the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) “to forthwith transfer him from the Sokoto Correctional Facility to a custodial facility within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court

Alternatively, Kanu sought an order transferring him to the court’s “immediate environs, such as the Suleja or the Keffi Custodial Centre, for the purpose of enabling the applicant to effectively prosecute his constitutionally guaranteed right of appeal.”

However, on Monday, the ex-parte application was turned down by Justice James Omotosho in the interest of justice

The judge ordered the self-acclaimed leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to convert his ex-parte application to a motion on notice and serve same on all parties to allow them to be heard.

He subsequently fixed January 27, 2026, for hearing of the motion on notice.

Justice Omotosho had, last week, declined to give audience to Kanu’s younger brother, Prince Emmanuel, who announced his appearance on behalf of the IPOB leader despite not being a lawyer

Alleged Genocide: US delegation in Nigeria

A United States Congressional delegation has arrived Nigeria and met with Nigeria’s National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, on strategic security partnership held in Abuja, Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Ribadu confirmed the visit in a statement on Sunday afternoon, explaining that he received the delegation on a fact-finding mission to Nigeria, following earlier engagements in Washington, D.C. on shared security priorities.

The delegation included Representatives Mario Díaz-Balart, Norma Torres, Scott Franklin, Juan Ciscomani, and Riley Moore, as well as the United States of America (USA) Ambassador to Nigeria, Richard Mills
Penpushing further reports that Ribadu emphasized that discussions focused on counter-terrorism cooperation, regional stability, and strengthening the Nigeria–America strategic security partnership.

The National Security Adviser said he was optimistic the engagement will deepen trust, collaboration, and shared commitment to peace and security, as both countries intensify diplomatic engagement on security cooperation and rising concerns in Washington over allegations of religious persecution.

Sunday’s meeting comes weeks after Ribadu led a high-level Nigerian delegation to Washington amid heightened America congressional scrutiny and a renewed push by some American lawmakers to categorise Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” (CPC) over alleged Christian persecution.

The Nigerian delegation during the America visits, which included senior government, security, intelligence, and diplomatic officials, held a series of engagements with key administration figures, including the American Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth.
Hegseth said he discussed “horrific violence against Christians” in Nigeria with the delegation, adding that Washington was working aggressively with Nigeria to end the persecution of Christians by jihadist terrorists.

The delegation earlier met with Rep. Riley Moore, one of the most vocal promoters of the false “Christian genocide” narrative, who described the talks as “frank, honest, and productive,” saying Nigerian officials outlined concerns about counterterrorism operations, security assistance, and the protection of vulnerable communities.

Since September, several American politicians and campaigners, including Mike Arnold, Senator Ted Cruz and some Christian leaders, have amplified claims that Islamist militants in Nigeria are systematically targeting Christians.

The Senator has even sponsored a bill seeking punitive action against Nigerian officials and at the same time, a coalition of Christian leaders submitted a petition in October pushing for Nigeria’s redesignation as a CPC.

The issue has sharply divided American lawmakers. a congressional hearing held last week split along partisan lines, with some members framing the crisis as “Christian genocide” and others warning that the narrative dangerously oversimplifies Nigeria’s complex and multi-layered security challenges.

The security researchers and credible media reports and a recent British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) fact-check) have raised doubts about the data driving the genocide claims, noting that many figures cannot be independently verified.

Analysts argue that the narrative misrepresents Nigeria’s security challenge, which affects both Christians and Muslims and is driven mainly by non-state armed groups.

The Nigerian government has repeatedly rejected the allegation, describing it as a gross misrepresentation of reality, while officials insist that terrorists attack anyone who opposes their ideology, regardless of faith.

President Bola Tinubu has said Nigeria will continue working with international partners, including the United States, to defeat terrorism in all its forms while resisting narratives that inflame religious tensions or mischaracterise the country’s security situation.

Tinubu Aide Reacts As Obasanjo Says If Govt Can't Protect, People Have Right To Call Int'l Community

Sunday Dare, the Special Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Public Communication has reacted to the statement that was made by former President of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo about security in Nigeria.

The reaction of Sunday Dare was contained in a post that he shared on his official X handle on Sunday, November 30, 2025.

According to DAILY TRUST, Obasanjo stated that the people of Nigeria have the right to call the international community to solve the issue of insecurity if the government can not do it.

The former President of Nigeria made the statement after the President of the United State of America, Donald Trump designated Nigeria as Country of Particular Concern over alleged Christian genocide.

“We are part of the world community, and if our government cannot protect us, we have right to call on the international community to do for us what our government cannot do for us".

According to Daily Post,Niger State Senator, Sani Musa, has sparked national debate with a bold and uncompromising call for the arrest of individuals who secretly negotiate with bandits, insisting that no one—regardless of status, influence, or personal ties—should be spared. Speaking during a security dialogue in Abuja, the senator declared that anyone engaging criminals without government authorization is not only undermining national security but also enabling terrorism.

In a statement that drew gasps from the audience, Senator Musa said: “Arrest the negotiators dealing with bandits, even if one of them is my own son.” The remark underscored his frustration with what he described as the growing trend of private actors, middlemen, and self-appointed mediators entering into backchannel negotiations with armed groups.
