419 MOTOR TO PORT-HARCOURT‼️
That was the number boldly written on my ticket from Calabar to Port Harcourt. I laughed at first, but I had no idea the journey was about to turn into a full movie
We left finally left Calabar around 2pm. The driver was rough and rude. The passengers turned on him every time he made a small mistake. At Odukpani, he stopped to fix the car. From 4pm to 7pm, we were stuck there crawling and I was just shaking my head
Then at the outskirts of Akwa Ibom, something happened…
A lady with ulcer kept pleading for food. The driver said “No” at first. She kept insisting and he finally stopped. We got out and while other passengers bought snacks for themselves, I settled for four boiled eggs.
That is exactly when the ugly drama began🤦♀️
A young man started harassing the driver. He kept demanding money from the driver and when the driver refused, he climbed the bonnet.
Then he shone a torch in the driver’s face. He jumped down and blocked the tyre with a stone.
Then when the driver tried reversing back to avoid the stone, the young man got angry, picked up a big stone and smashed the back glass!
I screamed and immediately, everyone scattered. The man ran into the bush when the driver tried to move
The villagers just watched as he bolted. Everyone knew him, they knew he steals. They knew he does drugs and that he harasses travelers. But helping strangers was too much effort for them and protecting the troublemaker was easier 😬
We waited another hour before leaving. The driver was bitter and when we got to Abia state, he was muttering to the woman behind:
“Now they have broken my glass, the ulcer no kill you”
I felt bad, so I wrote a small note saying: “Let us contribute something for him. Not out of force, but compassion” and I passed it to the ladies behind me.
When I asked for his account number, he was shocked and almost in tears. I transferred first. Then I announced it so others could join. By the end, he had received more than half the cost of the glass
Funny thing? The same driver had threatened to break my phone earlier when he saw me vlogging. He never imagined I would still rally help for him.
By the time we reached Port Harcourt at midnight, he was a completely different man. Calling vehicles for travelers, dropping people close to their destinations, while thanking us over and over☺️🤝
