Finca Santa Rita is a speciality coffee farm in Dipilto, Nicaragua co-owned by Roberto Castellano and Kaffeemacher. We share the goal to produce great coffee with great attention to the people and their land behind it. In August 2017, Roberto Castellano decided to start a collaboration with Kaffeemacher to further develop Finca Santa Rita. Both sides bring specific skill sets together to improve S
anta Ritas current state and strengthen it for the future. Roberto is an experienced agronomist and long-standing coffee farmer. After a fierce roya attack affected his farm severely in 2014 he was forced to focus more on his agronomy job. He knew that Santa Rita has the potential for great coffee so he kept going and has even produced a Cup of Excellence final coffee in 2017. Via mutual friends he got to know that the Kaffeemacher team from Switzerland was looking for an opportunity to being more involved at origin. Roberto decided to partner and get connected directly with the consuming side of coffee which the Kaffeemacher has been covering since 2011. For the Kaffeemacher team, it is the first time they produce coffee – they consider it as a learning project. At their coffee academy in Basel, Switzerland, they teach every aspect of coffee from the green bean to the final beverage. With Santa Rita, a longstanding wish came true. In their tradition as an institution for coffee knowledge, they are going to share their experiences and lessons learnt so that others can further develop their knowledge too. We, Roberto Castellano and the Kaffeemacher, aim to inspire exchange between the producing and consuming side of coffee.
