🌿 Hummus-Babaganoush-Moutabal:
Origins and Differences
HUMMUS:
• Hummus is a creamy dip made primarily from boiled chickpeas, tahini (sesame paste), garlic, lemon juice, and olive oil.
• It originates from the Levantine region — mainly Lebanon, Syria and Palestine, and has been a staple dish in Middle Eastern cuisine for centuries.
• It’s now popular worldwide and often served as part of a mezze (a collection of small dishes served
as appetizers).
• The word “hummus” means chickpeas in Arabic.
MOUTABAL >>(babaganoush):
• Moutabal is a smoky, creamy dip made from roasted eggplant (aubergine), tahini, yogurt, garlic, lemon juice, and salt.
• It’s often confused with Baba Ghanoush, but there is a key difference:
• Moutabal includes yogurt, giving it a creamier and slightly tangy flavor.
BABA GANOUSH:
• Baba Ghanoush, the authentic Damascene version, is
a vibrant, smoky eggplant salad—a far cry from the creamy tahini and yogurt-based versions found elsewhere.
• This Syrian recipe is fresh, rich, and full of bold flavors like paprika, tomatoes, garlic, pomegranate molasses, and walnuts
