The last time we saw Francesca & Davide of Il Ceo was last year at the Karakterre wine fair in Eisenstadt, where their infectious energy kept drawing us back to their table all day. Even though we haven’t seen them in person for over a year, we DID, however, receive their new vintage of the soulful and honest, living wines from the volcanic hills north of Vicenza, which helps a lot in bringing by their energy to The Netherlands!

Francesca & Davide work primarily with indigenous varieties such as Vespaiola, Groppello, Pedevenda and Friulano, making pure, well-priced wines that consistently combine drinkability with tension and character. Back in stock: the pét-nat Vespri Frizzante (Vespaiola; incomparably nicer than Prosecco) and the raspberry-toned Rosé Frizzante 2024 — affectionately known here as ‘De Roze Kip’ — plus three still wines.

Togo is a saline, juicy orange from Vespaiola, Pedevenda and Friulano — the kind that has somehow disappeared before you’ve noticed. Toro is a light, mineral, subtly smoky Merlot with bright cherry fruit — not usually a variety we get overly excited about, but Davide is clearly allowed to bend the rules. And Groppea, from the Nebbiolo-adjacent Groppello, carries the rosy depth of Nebbiolo without the weight or austerity. Viva!

For a few years now, we have been so impressed by the digestibility and brightness of the wines by Zoé, Louise & Thierry Puzelat of Clos du Tue-Boeuf from Touraine in Loire, and every time we get even more excited to welcome the first part of the new vintage in spring... Alongside fresh vintages of Vin Blanc, Vin Rosé and Vin Rouge, a few extra red beauties made the journey too — with the larger white and red cuvées still to come later this year.

The first new arrival is La Petite Guerre 2024, sourced from an ancient vineyard previously used for the peppery, structured La Guerrerie. In the cold and wet 2024 vintage, Zoé and Louise decided to give the old-vine Côt and Gamay from silex soils only a very short maceration, resulting in a razor-sharp red that leans much more towards Pineau d’Aunis and vibrant Gamay than the deep, powerful side of Côt. Really delicious, and amidst the more classical reds from this part of the Loire a true breath of fresh air.

Alongside La Petite Guerre, we also received Près du Bois 2022 — a Cabernet Franc cuvée produced in tiny quantities, aged in old wooden barrels, and immediately reminiscent of true natural Chinon. With finesse, freshness, and that beautiful berry-driven, slightly forest-like character that Touraine Cabernet Franc can express so brilliantly.

Finally, a small handful of magnums of La Gravotte Rouge 2025 also made it over: a Pinot Noir–Pinot Gris blend from the Cheverny appellation, serious yet absolutely electric with blood orange and ruby grapefruit fruit. Fortunately, it arrived in the correct format straight away…

All in all, we’re very happy to have the new wines by the genius sisters in, who are giving their own modern (or, is this actually old-school?) twist to the style of one of the most OG natural wine estates in Touraine.

With the extra shelf space in our new shop, we thought it’d be nice to add some of our favorite cooking ingredients and delicacies to the selection — and so we did!

For starters, we are now stocking Inoue Honten’s light and extra-long aged soy sauces from Nara, pure mirin by Ogasawara Mirin Brewery, cooking sake, snow-fermented long-aged chili paste from Niigata Prefecture, and a few other go-to Japanese pantry staples. Alongside those, there’s delicious olive oils from Natalino del Prete in Puglia and the Ligas family from Northern Greece, tenderly smoked tinned fish from Northern waters by Fangst, and cèpes oil and Dutch shrimp garum by 621 Ferments.

All of the above is made by people with a genuine love and respect for what nature has to offer — and it shows. Check the webshop or swing by the shop to have a look. Happy eating!

There’s more good news from the headquarters: a lot of new wines by Brigitte & Ewald Tscheppe of Weingut Werlitsch from the lush, green hills of Austria’s Südsteiermark have arrived! The wines of Werlitsch are defined by their distinctive Opok soils of clay and sandstone on limestone marl: smoky, toasty aromas of sesame and puffed buckwheat, an almost skin-contact-like texture, intense minerality and beautiful acidity.

The mono-cépage wines — Morillon vom Opok 2024 (100% Chardonnay), 100% Sauvignon Blanc and 100% Welschriesling — form great introductions to the wonderful Opok-world, each focused, linear and thirst-quenching. The rare Dreigenerationenwein sits at the opposite end of the spectrum: a field blend of many varieties harvested and fermented together, full of passionfruit, jasmine and subtle nuttiness, with the unmistakable saline Opok signature running through it all.

Then there are the Ex Vero wines from three different elevations on the same (extremely steep) hillside. This year we received a special Reserve-version of Ex Vero I and II from 2021, after four-plus years in barrel and now bottled almost completely dry. Alongside the regular Ex Vero II 2023 and a handful of the S 2022, we also received the dry Ex Vero III 2023 — 70% incline, roots growing directly into Opok rock, almost monumental — and an Ex Vero III S 2022 from a barrel that never quite reached full dryness.

All the Roman numerals and alphabetical suffixes may feel slightly dizzying, but the wines mostly speak for themselves. Check the website or get in touch — we are always happy to guide people through the white wine universe of Werlitsch. And, as Jean-Pierre Robinot once said: the most beautiful old dry natural wines are often the wines that used to be sweet…

It’s Monday, it’s the first of June, the weather is great, and we have good news to share! From the ever-smiling power couple Justine & Patrick Bouju of Domaine La Bohème in the Auvergne, a new shipment has arrived — and this time, alongside the widely beloved regulars, we are also releasing three rare, aged domaine wines that have been quietly resting in our cellar, with two of which that have rarely been produced over the past decade…

First off is familiar-faced Lulu 2023, which is 100% amphora-aged Gamay d’Auvergne from very old vines on basalt soils: earthy, peppery and smoky, with that distinct basaltic acidity and a captivating blackberry perfume. Next to Lulu, we also received Violette 2022/23, which is her softer, more suave sister. Also Gamay d’Auvergne on volcanic soils, but aged in steel and old wooden barrels, with bruised cherry, raspberry, a lightly oxidative edge and beautiful violet-aroma. Gamay as queen and princess of the Auvergne…

Lastly, The Blanc 2022/23 is a masterclass in volcanic Chardonnay: broad-shouldered, creamy and generous, yet lifted by volcanic spice and an immensely thirst-quenching freshness — floating somewhere between the Loire, Burgundy and Jura, yet unmistakably Auvergne. Wine for the lovers of big white, but also for those who are fatigued by the overly rich wines now sometimes produced in those regions.

Alongside the domaine wines, the regular Bohème range has been expanded and several wines are now more attractively priced, like aromatic orange GM 2023, old-vine Beaujolais Super B and the cris Melon 2022, amongst others. New to the range is PG 2024 — a spicy, finely textured light red from hundred-year-old Gamay and Pinot vines on the volcanic hills of Gergovie, whole-cluster fermented and amphora-aged. High-octane summer wine, as far as we’re concerned!

(PS. The domaine wines are freely available to order this time around, as quantities are slightly bigger than usual, but as always: once it’s gone, it’s gone…)

We received new wines by the ever-original Grape Republic from Yamagata, Japan, and they push things in a completely different direction once again! Vivid, expressive, and bursting with aromas rarely found in European wine, the wines are largely made from hybrid grape varieties that are almost unknown on this side of the world, and have h u g e drinkability.

The latest release includes the elderflower-scented Aromatico Frizzante, the almost Emilia-Romagna-like Bianco Macerato, the airy Bianco, a cherry-fresh and watermelon-like Rosato, and a soft, berry-driven Rosso. Highly perfumed, like an exotic spring: fresh, vibrant, crunchy with laser-like precision, full of tropical hints and consistently low, sub-12% alcohol throughout.

Also, with this release, there is an extra reason to be excited: a favorable yen-exchange rate has made the 2024s noticeably more accessible than previous vintages, and we are passing that advantage on directly. Makes it easier to enjoy Yamagatan wine all summer…

Every year, we eagerly await the new vintages from the ever-smiling Simon & Franz Strohmeier from Austrian Styria, because many of their wines genuinely taste like spring to us: blossom, rhubarb, wild strawberry, fresh grass, green herbs — and we are very excited that that the new spiral-of-life wines have landed!

For us, the Dutch spring only truly begins when the new Schiller Frizzante has arrived, as it’s consistently the wine that ends up in the backpack for the first park or riverside outings of the year. The 2025 is, as always, wonderfully rhubarb-fresh, with a delicate sparkle, raspberry-like juiciness, and that addictive, lightly savory and peppery undertone.

Also we were stunned by the new vintage of TLZ Weiss — nowadays a cornerstone of our (until recently, white Burgundy-less…) portfolio. The TLZ Weiss is a luscious, full-bodied Pinot Blanc-Chardonnay blend aged in 500L barrels, with a strikingly fresh citrus core and distinct minerality that keeps the wine drinking as refreshing as the freshness of the natural pond at one of Simon & Franz’ vineyards.

Besides the above, we received the new vintage of the orange sparkling Blanc d’Orange, plenty of the rhubarb rosé Lys-rød, the light and almost orange-tinged TLZ Karmin (matt be our favorite wine this release?), and the astonishing Pineau d’Aunis-like TLZ Rot, alongside a number of other new and aged ’bigger’ Strohmeier cuvées. Happy spring!

Amidst all the craze of our spring tastings and the opening of Zuiver Bar, we almost forgot to mention that the deliciously pure Chardonnays by the Valette family are available through Zuiver Wijnen as of this month!

The Chardonnays of Maison Valette are made by natural wine stalwarts Cécile and Philippe Valette in Chaintré, southern Burgundy. These are wines that need little introduction in the natural wine world, as they are idiosyncratic whites defined by their long élevages, a controlled oxidative character, real tension and complexity, whilst somehow never losing their drinkability.

What struck us the most during tasting with Cécile at La Dive in February, was the energy and purity running through the wines — the clarity with which the terroir speaks, especially across multi-vintage blends that sometimes span as far back as 2018. The blending of multiple vintages now has become a staple technique at the Valettes, as the often long and unpredictable fermentations of natural white wines amidst serious fluctuations in climate require great patience and a certain sensitivity, which Cécile and Philippe have mastered. These extended fermentations add depth, intensity and texture, without creating any sense of instability, and by blending multiple vintages, balance is achieved. The result reflects the philosophy of the Valettes: wines of great depth and intensity, but with complete composure.

From the the citrus-driven, saline Mâcon-Villages to the more serious Mâcon-Chaintré, the four-vintage Et Pourtant…, and the broad and lively Pouilly-Fuissés (including the special Clos Reyssié and M. Noly cuvées), all wines we poured and tasted per the last few weeks were showing and impressed, and we are super excited to have them in stock. On top, a small number of magnums are also available from almost all cuvées, for the true Mâconnais enthusiast.

We updated the producer profile on the website and all cuvées are highlighted with extensive descriptions, so please check online or get in touch if you have any questions about these Burgundian mastodons. Santé!

As we are gearing up for our annual Spring Tasting(s!) this Sunday 10-5 (14:00-17:00) at Vin Natuur in Groningen and Monday 11-5 (13:00-16:00) at De Kleine Bes in Amsterdam-Oost, we are working hard on the selection…

With the selection, we hope to showcase many energetic and lively spring-esque wines, new arrivals, old favorites, as well as the full range by the brothers of La Rural who will be joining us for both days.

Besides the wines of La Rural, the selection will include the new vintage of Humus, wines by new domaine Maison Valette, deep and hypnotic orange by Shun Minowa and Ktima Ligas, as well as brightness from the rolling green hills of Steiermark, by the likes of Strohmeier and Muster, amongst many others.

Please RSVP for the tastings in Groningen or Amsterdam by emailing to [email protected]. Hope to see you there, and enjoy the sun!

The happy spring news continues — from Alsace, new vintages by Léo Dirringer are now available! The wines of Léo and his partner Alison were a highlight during our portfolio tasting in November, and the joy they put into winemaking is as palpable in person as it is in the glass.

Returning favorites include the salty, 100% Riesling Grain de Sable 2023, the broad yet precise Granit’iK, and the formidable, lush barrel-aged red Breitstein — all restocked and very welcome back. Joining them: a second bottling of Pur Jus 2024 (longer aging in foudres for the same price…), and the ever-popular Les Bulles 2023, back in ample supply.

Furthermore, we received Virose 2024, which is Gewurztraminer in optima forma — aromatic and tropical, yet perfectly tuned and refreshing, as the short maceration and modest alcohol keeps everything lively and light. Lastly, the new vintage of Terre à Boire, made of mainly Pinot Noir with a touch of Pinot Gris, is exactly the spring red we love dearly: poised, shrubby, rhubarb-and-raspberry-esque with loads of salinity and energy. Spring is here!
