At The Arendal Wine Society, we believe that wine is meant to be enjoyed, not over-analysed. Our community is all about breaking down the barriers of wine appreciation, moving away from the stuffy, formal approach, and embracing a more relaxed, open-minded experience.

This year’s AWS Champion has been crowned, and with that, another fantastic season comes to an end! 🍷🏆

What a great year it has been. Together, we have tasted 15 wines, blended our own white wine, expanded our knowledge of aromas and blind tasting, enjoyed a visit from Pristin Vin, and even had a rare and fascinating tour of Træsnes Gård.

Thank you for providing the venue, helping with administration, and supporting the wine club in so many ways. We simply could not do this without you. On behalf of all 50 people who joined AWS this year – thank you!

Most of all, thank you to everyone who participated. It has been great fun, and each tasting has brought together an amazing group of people. The enthusiasm, laughter, and friendships have made this year truly special.

We look forward to seeing you all again next season! 🍷✨

Today was a wine day beyond all expectations.

We were incredibly fortunate to be invited behind the scenes at Træsnes Gård, where founder and owner Nicolay Gausel personally guided us around the vineyard and farm. He shared the history of the property, the local area, the unique microclimate, and the journey of building a wine-producing estate in our neighboring municipality of Froland.

It was fascinating and truly impressive to see what Nicolay is creating. His passion, vision, and commitment to producing world-class wines are evident in every aspect of the project.

We believe in his dream, wish him every success, and hope to welcome him back to AWS one day to share a few bottles from future vintages.

We could not be more impressed.

A big thank you to Nicolay for his hospitality, and to everyone who joined us for this memorable experience!

What a fantastic tasting experience at AWS on Thursday!

We were delighted to welcome from , who guided us through a truly memorable lineup of wines from Germany, Hungary, and France.

Atle showcased some fascinating contrasts in oak influence, ripeness, vintages, and grape varieties, making the evening both inspiring and educational.

We all learned so much from Atle. His passion for wine is infectious, and for a little while it felt as though time stood still as we explored wines from rare and unique producers.

Atle, you are always welcome back. We are certain you still have many more special small producers for us to discover.
For club members: all the wines have been rated and listed on the website. We hope you’ll order a few bottles to enjoy with friends and family, just as Hein and I already have!

Amazing what a fun night! 🍷✨

Blending wine is one of those behind-the-scenes parts of winemaking we rarely get to experience — but wow, it’s such an art. It really hit me how every bottle we buy is the result of tiny percentage decisions, with each grape bringing its own character and value to the final blend. 🍇

Huge thanks for a super fun night and a seriously great wine experience. Cheers to learning (and tasting) along the way! 🥂 shout out to our partner Welcome Hub Agder and for the new joiners for the night!

The time of year is here — fires are being lit and red wine is being poured.

If you are looking for a great series for wine lovers this festive season, we recommend Drops of God, streaming on Apple TV.

It is an absolutely fantastic, Emmy-winning, wine-based series, personally recommended by Roberta Dahl. Binge watched by Heinrich and myself.

Last night we wrapped up our final wine tasting of 2025, and what a great way to finish the year.
We explored wine aromas, did some blind tasting (always fun!) and even enjoyed a touch of Christmas cheer throughout the evening.

A big thank you to Heinrich for guiding us through the wines, and to Welcome Hub Agderfor partnering with us, arriving early, and helping make the event such a success.

Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas, and I’m already looking forward to our white wine blending session in January.

A sparkling start to the new year at AWS

Last night, many bottles of bubbles were opened as we celebrated the start of the new year. The evening took us on a journey through the world of sparkling wines — beginning in France, to a pét-nat, followed by a bright and elegant sparkling wine from Tasmania. We continued with a Method Cap Classique, famously served at both Mandela’s and Obama’s inaugurations, then raised a glass of champagne, and finally blind tasted a stunning Italian white travel wine that left everyone confused.

A heartfelt thank you to Raymond and Liv Heidi for bringing the special wine for us to taste, and to the Welcome Hub Agder for all the support that made the evening possible.

A wonderful start to the year — and there’s much more to come.
