Here are 2 ways Silo Guard can help your farm’s profitability 💰

1. Reduce Dry Matter Loss in Silage 🌾

Did you know that in addition to nutrient degradation, mould and wild yeast can cause increased respiration, heat production, and mycotoxin contamination, leading to significant dry matter loss?

2. Boost Milk Production 🐄

By reducing exposure to these harmful moulds and mycotoxins you can prevent issues like reduced milk production, reproductive problems, immune suppression, and chronic illness.

Stop harmful mould and yeast with Silo Guard!

Don't overlook the importance of mould and yeast when it comes to silage!

Here are the reasons why:

🥦 Reduced Feed Quality: Mould and yeast growth in animal feed diminishes its nutritional value and palatability. This means less nourishment for your livestock and lower milk production. Say goodbye to optimal feed conversion and hello to decreased profits!

🗑️ Increased Feed Waste: Contaminated feed often ends up as compost as animals refuse to consume it. This leads to higher feed waste and additional expenses for disposal. Let's save your hard-earned money from being tossed away!

⚕️Veterinary Interventions: Mouldy feed can trigger health issues in livestock due to harmful mycotoxins. This means more vet visits, medications, and specialised care. Protect your animals' well-being while keeping your wallet happy!

🐄 Decreased Productivity: Mold and yeast contamination leads to lower milk production, stunted growth in young animals, and decreased overall productivity. Unlock the full potential of your herd and unlock your farm's profitability!

🌽 Replacement Feed Costs: When feed becomes unsuitable due to mould and yeast, farmers often need to buy additional feed, and supplements adding to the expenses. Let's minimise the need for costly replacements and maximise your feed efficiency!

💰 Storage and Management Expenses: Preventing mould and yeast growth requires Silo Guard, proper harvest and storage of the crop, and regular monitoring. These necessary investments ensure the highest feed quality and protect your financial bottom line! Don't let mould and yeast silently eat away at your farm's success. Take control today by implementing preventive measures and effective mould and yeast control strategies. Remember, healthy feed means healthier animals, higher productivity, and greater profits for your farm. Let's keep your livestock thriving and your farm thriving too.

How To Limit SHRINKAGE In Silage.

As we all know, a loss in dry matter = lost dollars! 💰 But do you know how shrinkage occurs?

It happens in both the aerobic phase of as well as during feed-out. Here's how:

In the Aerobic Phase:
- Dry matter loss begins with plant cell respiration
- Continues with the growth of aerobic yeast, mould and bacteria
- Both processes utilize carbohydrate sources (primarily sugar) to produce water, heat and carbon dioxide
- It is the carbon, lost to the atmosphere, which causes shrink loss

In the Feed-out Phase:
- Initially caused by the growth of yeast, followed by mould and bacteria
- These organisms produce heat by utilizing more carbohydrates further reducing dry matter

Pictured here is a 3D model of a silage stack that's been sprayed with Silo Guard. We will check back in on this farm in Balfour to see how the product has limited shrinkage by removing the oxygen and limiting the ability for mould and yeast to grow.

Debunking a MYTH: Silage heat isn't just due to moisture.

The real culprits are MOULD and YEAST. Here’s how it works:

🍽️ Feeding: Mould and yeast feed on the sugars in silage, much like how we get energy from food. As they eat, they release energy, and a byproduct of this energy is heat.

🔥 Hot Spots: Sometimes, these microbes gather in certain areas, creating "hot spots" where the energy release is concentrated.

👉 Impact on Quality: Prolonged or excess heating will cause dry matter loss, as well as reduce the nutrients, protein digestibility and available energy of the silage. All of these things can lead to significant issues for your animal's health and profitability.

So, to combat heat in silage, focus on mould and yeast for top-quality silage. 🌾🔥

Silo Guard – it’s not a magic wand, but it's a great tool to tame heat from mould and yeast, by swiftly limiting its chance to grow.
