Misty Cove Wines

Misty Cove Wines The wine for good times! Spending his summers growing up in Marlborough has fostered a passion for the Misty Coves of the Marlborough sounds. Whatever that is.

Misty Cove was founded by Andrew Bailey, an eccentric, hard case, Southerner, who much like his wine, has matured into a man who loves life, great times, and most of all viticulture. So much so, that he calls this wondrous world home for both himself and his winery. It is often said that wine takes on the characteristics of the personalities surrounding it. For Misty Cove, this is a truism that ha

s seen it ripen and mature from a humble family founded company, into the full-bodied, loveable rascal it has become. Misty Cove distills this elaborate sounding mystique, into what we like to think as some very special vintages indeed. Misty Cove doesn’t get overly caught up in the ‘faint hint of autumn leaves’ and ‘delicate plum overtures’ or even ‘crisp winter grasses”. We prefer to focus on producing great wine that for optimum enjoyment should be shared with a group of likeminded mates. Don’t worry; we do autumn leaves and plums too. We simply prefer to let the awards we win, speak about our pedigree for us. This allows us to concentrate on producing top wines for any occasion and to have a drink with the great people who enjoy Misty Cove. Leaving the pretense for those tedious types who spoil your night with pompous pontification.

Our new Landmark Chardonnay is seriously making the rounds and making a serious impression... Cheers!

The 2025 release has been recognised by three of New Zealand’s leading wine critics, with outstanding reviews across the board:

94 Points & 5 Stars — Sam Kim
"Splendidly fruited and inviting on the nose with aromas of mango, nectarine, vanilla, cedar, and oatmeal. The palate is wonderfully weighted and succulent, complemented by creamy texture and finely pitched acidity."

92 Points — Cameron Douglas Mater Sommelier
"Well made, dry, plenty of weight and creaminess leading to a lengthy finish."

4½ Stars — Michael Cooper
"Rich, peachy and full-bodied, with concentrated, ripe stonefruit flavours, gentle acidity and excellent depth."

A Chardonnay that combines generosity, texture and complexity, while staying beautifully balanced and unmistakably Marlborough.

YUS!

Here's to an exceptional new release.

Introducing our amazing Landmark Series line-up. So which one do we choose this week?

Let’s take a quick lap around the range:

Sauvignon Blanc
Bright, zesty and aromatic, with classic Marlborough citrus, tropical fruit and crisp acidity.

Merlot Cabernet Franc
Soft, generous and savoury, with dark berry fruit, gentle spice and smooth tannins.

Rosé
Fresh, dry and elegant, with red berry lift, subtle florals and a clean, refreshing finish.

Albariño
Vibrant and coastal in style, with citrus, stone fruit, saline minerality and a crisp finish.

Riesling
Fragrant and precise, with lime, green apple, floral notes and bright natural acidity.

Chardonnay
Rich yet balanced, with stone fruit, citrus, subtle oak influence and a creamy texture.

Pinot Noir
Silky and expressive, with red cherry, plum, spice and fine, elegant tannins.

Grüner Veltliner
Textural and lively, with pear, citrus, white pepper and a clean savoury edge.

And this week, we’re choosing the Grüner Veltliner.

Why? Because it’s made for this weather.

Fresh, floral and just a little savoury, it’s the perfect rainy-day white. Even better with spicy food, cosy dinners and anything that needs a wine with texture, lift and a little bit of attitude.

A seriously underrated food wine, and exactly what we’re reaching for this week.

Landmark Chardonnay doing Landmark Chardonnay things.

A huge massive thanks to Cameron Douglas (Master Sommelier) for this outstanding 92-point review of our 2025 Landmark Series Chardonnay — a wine built around texture, complexity and serious drinkability.

“A very good example…” with layers of orchard fruit, white peach, cashew butter, lees complexity and wood smoke, finishing with “plenty of weight and creaminess leading to a lengthy finish.”

We love seeing Marlborough Chardonnay getting this kind of recognition — especially styles that lean into depth, balance and craftsmanship rather than just power.

92 Points. Premium. And only just getting started.

THANK YOU MISTER

Pinot or Merlot Cab Franc? Estate or Landmark? And if we choose Pinot, which one? These are the kinds of decisions that keep us up at night.

Three reds. Three very different personalities.

Estate Series Pinot Noir — bright, juicy, silky and dangerously easy to keep pouring.

Landmark Series Pinot Noir — deeper, darker, more brooding. The one that turns a casual glass into a long conversation.

Landmark Merlot Cab Franc — plush, savoury and structured with just the right amount of swagger.

Tonight though… we’re reaching for the Estate Pinot Noir. Why? Because sometimes you don’t want to think too hard. You just want something smooth, vibrant and ridiculously drinkable.

Winter reds. Marlborough style.

Sure is wet out there folks.

Misty wishes you a very awesome and hopefully dry weekend - preferably with a juicy, bright glass of red to sip on.

More marvellous news for our brand new Landmark Series Chardonnay 2025.

This single-vineyard Marlborough Chardonnay continues to impress the experts, picking up glowing reviews from two vino critics lately:

94 Points | 5 Stars
"It's splendidly fruited and inviting on the nose with aromas of mango, nectarine, vanilla, cedar, and oatmeal. The palate is wonderfully weighted and succulent, complemented by creamy texture and finely pitched acidity, making it highly enjoyable."
– Sam Kim, Wine Orbit

★★★★½
"The 2025 vintage is a single-vineyard wine, fermented and matured for eight months in French oak barriques (25 per cent new). Bright, light yellow/green, it is a powerful style, sturdy, savoury and vigorous, with good intensity of ripe, peachy, slightly spicy and biscuity flavours, well-integrated oak and fresh acidity. Still youthful, it is well-structured, promising to reward cellaring to 2028+."
– Michael Cooper MA ONZM

Richly textured, beautifully balanced, and built to evolve, this is a Chardonnay that's drinking beautifully now and has plenty ahead of it.

A little behind the scenes look at a natural light Misty Cove wine bottle photo shoot.

The key is to wait … for that right light, right glow, right vibe and then go!

We love how much character and personality our Estate range bottles have.

More good news for our epic 2025 Landmark Series Pinot Noir.

The reviews keep rolling in for this stunning Marlborough single-vineyard Pinot Noir, and we’re pretty chuffed with what the critics are saying.

94 Points | 5 Stars
“Richly ripe and fragrant, the bouquet showcases dark plum, sweet cherry, floral, warm spice, and assorted nut aromas. The palate delivers succulent fruit intensity, silky texture, and layers of fine tannins, leading to a splendidly long, plush finish.”
– Sam Kim, Wine Orbit

★★★★½
“Already enjoyable, the 2025 vintage is a fragrant, full-bodied red, estate-grown in the Fareham Lane Vineyard, inland from Renwick, and French oak-matured for 10 months. Sweet-fruited and savoury, it is finely structured, with strong, youthful cherry, plum and spice flavours, complex, supple and very harmonious.”
– Michael Cooper MA ONZM

90 Points
“Very nice fruit intensity with core aromas and flavours of dark plum and black cherry layered with fruit spice and a leesy quality. A mix of dried herb and gentle wood spices, a whisper of smoke and meat then back to red berry fruits. Dry with fine to moderate tannins elevate the mouthfeel and add to the finish.”
– Cameron Douglas MS

Three respected wine critics. Three glowing reviews. One seriously impressive Pinot Noir.
