World Whisky Day takes place this Saturday, so we're celebrating this week with a look at whiskies from around the world, and what better place to start than here at home. Known by a few names, the Wilson's Distillery (aka Willowbank, Lammerlaw) first sold their blended whisky (the Wilson's pictured here) in the early 1970's to compete with imported Scotch whiskies. The distillery eventually released their first single malt in the 1980's under the Lammerlaw name.
The 80's and 90's were a difficult time for the distillery, and in 1997 its doors were permanently, with the remaining stocks sold under a number of different brands, such as Milford, Meenan's Lammerlaw and The New Zealand Whisky Collection.
Cheers to the Wilson's distillery in Dunedin, it may be lost to time but it's contribution to the whisky story of New Zealand is not forgotten.
