AUE! BUCK IT DESSERTS!!

Nan's House Mint Slice

A timeless old-school favourite that brings back memories of baking in Nan's kitchen. Layers of smooth, refreshing peppermint filling sit on a soft vanilla cake base, finished with a rich chocolate topping. Sweet, creamy, and perfectly balanced, it's a classic slice made with aroha and the comforting flavours we all grew up with.

✨A TASTE OF OUR MĀTARIKI MENU ✨

🍲 Nanny Shirley’s Beef Stroganoff 🍲

Every dish carries a pūrākau a story of aroha, manaakitanga, and the unwavering love and mahi of wāhine toa.

Nanny Shirley’s Beef Stroganoff reminds us of the dedication, strength, and love she poured into her whānau every single day.

After long hours of mahi, Nan would return home and continue caring for her whānau. Through her mahi nui and the love she carried as a wife, she would prepare Koro’s dinner, making sure his kai was ready for him when he arrived home from mahi at 10pm.

While she waited for his return, Nan would sit at the tēpu inside our homestead in Pakipaki, her book in hand, her foot tapping away to the sound of her favourite country music filling the whare. Those quiet moments were part of her a time of peace, comfort, and joy before she would rise again to finish preparing the kai she had lovingly made.

She would allow herself a small rest, then wake to turn the pot back on, letting the beef slowly cook and the flavours come together, filling the whare with warmth and aroha before Koro walked through the door.

That was Nan’s way of showing aroha.
Through her hands, her time, her patience, and her devotion, she created a whare filled with whānau, warmth, and belonging.

This dish honours the unseen hours, the sacrifices, and the love that was poured into her whānau. It reminds us of the strength of our kuia the women who carried so much, often quietly, but always with mana, grace, and love.

As part of our NANS HOUSE Matariki Menu, we celebrate the kai, the memories, and the mātauranga passed down through generations.

🌟 NANS HOUSE
He kai, he kōrero, he taonga.
A meal, a story, a treasure.

Where every dish holds a pūrākau, and every bite carries the love of those who came before us.💜

In memory of our beloved kuia, whose aroha, manaakitanga, and unwavering strength shaped the hearts of our whānau, this Memorial Matariki Menu is lovingly dedicated to the legacy they leave behind.

As Matariki rises, we remember those who have returned to the stars, giving thanks for the recipes, stories, laughter, and love they gifted us. Every dish is a reflection of their hands, their wisdom, and the whakapapa that continues to nourish us.

We also hold a special place for our precious moko girl, Inara Rose, whose name on this menu represents the promise of the generations to come our hope, our joy, and our future. He taonga tuku iho tēnei, he kai i tunua ki te aroha, hei whakanui i ō tātou tūpuna, hei manaaki i te hunga ora, ā, hei whakakaha i te here o te whānau.

💜 WELCOME TO NANS HOUSE 💜

Some of the greatest memories are born around a Nan's table.
Long before you reached the front door, you could smell the kai drifting down the street. It was the smell of home. The smell of manaakitanga. The smell that told every mokopuna, neighbour, and whānau member there was always enough to share.

There is something sacred about a Nan's kitchen.
If your puku was empty or your ngākau was heavy, there was always room at her table. No invitation was needed. You simply walked in, found a seat, and knew you would leave feeling full not just in your stomach, but in your heart.
NANS HOUSE is a love letter to two remarkable wāhine who were the poutokomanawa of their whānau Nanny Shirley, my Nan, and Nanny Rita, my husband's Nan.

These incredible kuia taught us that the greatest ingredient was never found on a recipe card it was two of the most important ingredients LOVE & TIME 💜

Through every boil-up, every stew, every fry bread, every Tonihi Special, and every humble meal prepared with love, they nourished far more than hungry mouths. They fed our wairua, strengthened our whakapapa, and showed us that manaakitanga begins in the kitchen.

Their recipes were never written down. They were measured by instinct, seasoned with experience, stirred with patience, and always served with unconditional love.
Those memories now live within us.
They live in the laughter around the table, the cousins running through the house, the warmth of the kitchen, the smell drifting down the street, and Nan calling out, "Come and eat," or "Make your mate a kai don't ask just make it."

Every meal on our menu has been inspired by those treasured memories.
Every dish tells a story.
Every plate honours the women who fed generations before us.
Every bite is a reminder that kai is more than food, it is whakapapa, manaakitanga, aroha, and the thread that binds whānau together.

At NANS HOUSE, we honour their legacy by sharing the old-school favourites that raised us.
Whether you're searching for comfort, connection, a taste of home, or simply a hearty feed, we invite you to pull up a chair and become part of our table.

We also have 2 MENUS engari we are only realeasing the 1 FOR NOW 🔥

From our whānau to yours...
Nau mai. Haere mai.
Fill your puku. Feed your wairua.
Because the best meals were never found in restaurants.

They were found at Nan's House.
