Before stepping onto the plant floor, there’s a process!

As a human-grade food manufacturer, hygiene and health & safety standards are non-negotiable at TBE. Boots are scrubbed before entering the plant and again when exiting. Hands are washed thoroughly. Protective gear is worn correctly.

“It’s our gift-wrap to the end customer.” 🙂

Eddie has been part of the TBE3 team for nine years and here he is wrapping and a box, preparing it for international shipping.
This protective wrap keeps dust and insects off, and ensures the box arrives in the same condition it left our site. Once wrapped, the boxes are transported to port and shipped to customers around the world!

Say hey to Kiri in the re**er! 👋

The re**er is a large chilled container used for cooling down and storing bagged broth and extracts. Freshly cooked broth and extract arrives warm from the cooker in 15kg bags. From there, it’s cooled before being packed into large Spacekraft™ boxes (40 per box) ready for transport.

Temperature control is critical in maintaining product integrity, and our team monitor this process closely before products head to their final customer destinations. 👌

Every day starts with a plan. 😊

Our engineering team, led by Damon, meet regularly for toolbox meetings to prioritise jobs, troubleshoot challenges, and schedule maintenance across the site.

From bearings and gearboxes to motors and pumps, they’re responsible for keeping our plant moving. When breakdowns happen, they respond (often outside standard hours) with some team members on call 24/7.

It’s a tight-knit team of four, combining experience, practical skill and teamwork to keep our operations running safely and smoothly.

Precision matters at every stage. 👌

Here, one of our engineers is checking a Spirax Sarco reducing valve before it’s installed back into the plant. This valve reduces steam pressure from 10 bar to 5.5 bar. This is an important step in ensuring controlled, consistent heating during processing.

Steam is a key energy source in both TBE1 and TBE3. Before installation, bolts are tightened, threads are checked, and everything is inspected to make sure it’s ready for the steam line.
It’s this attention to detail that supports product quality and plant reliability.

Behind every smooth production day is a team making sure everything runs exactly as it should.

Here’s one of our engineers in the onsite workshop fabricating a custom hose rack for our 2 - 3 inch hoses used when loading tallow pods in TBE1. It might look like a simple job, but it’s these practical, fit-for-purpose solutions that keep our plant operating efficiently.

Our engineering team are responsible for all plant maintenance, from preventative servicing through to urgent breakdown repairs. With some of the team on call 24/7, their work often happens quietly in the background… but it’s critical to everything we do.

Not long after joining Taranaki Bio Extracts, Kane found himself constantly unwell. Colds, infections, fatigue… it became the catalyst for a complete rethink around food and nutrition.

Rowan Stockwell has been hard at work nurturing the environment around Taranaki Bio Extracts, and his expertise in this space is really paying off.

About a year ago, Rowan planted a range of native plants and grasses along the sloped area between the TBE/TBP staff carpark and our sites. Today, that space is thriving, adding life, colour, and biodiversity to the area. 🌿

Beyond looking great, these native plantings play an important environmental role. Their deep root systems help stabilise soil, prevent erosion, and naturally filter contaminants from run-off, supporting healthier local waterways.

A huge thanks to Rowan for helping our site grow in all the right ways.

From Taranaki, our shipments travel to destinations across Asia and North America, supplying international customers with high-quality New Zealand ingredients.
