Word of the Day: Manaaki

Manaaki means to care for others, to uplift people with kindness, generosity, and respect.

Sometimes manaaki is as simple as taking a moment to sit with someone, having a yarn, sharing a laugh, or checking in to see if they’re doing okay. It doesn’t cost a thing, but it can mean the world to someone who needs it.

A little time, a little kindness, and a listening ear can change someone’s whole day. 💜

On Friday, we had the privilege of sitting down with a good man named Mikaere, sharing a meal and a real kōrero together. Moments like these remind us why we started Table Talk Aotearoa in the first place.

Sometimes the simplest things mean the most. A seat at the table, a warm plate of kai, good company, and a conversation from the heart. It doesn’t take much to be kind, but those small moments can make a big difference in someone’s day.

This is our way of giving back to the community where we can, creating space for people to connect, laugh, share stories, and remind each other that none of us are alone in this journey.

We tried to go live this morning to share breakfast and a little kōrero with you all… but because the page is still new, it wouldn’t let us 😅

So instead, we recorded our morning antics anyway 🤣

Nothing flash for breaky, and don’t come at me about “healthy choices” lol. Some people don’t even get the luxury of choosing what’s on their plate. We’re just grateful to have something to eat 💛

Today was something special 💜

Our very first Table Talk Aotearoa vlog, and honestly… it couldn’t have started more perfectly.

Today we shared a meal with a humble brother Don, this is the two Donz from South Auckland, Manurewa, sharing a meal together. Just everyday people like us. No expectations… just food on the table and open hearts.

What started as strangers sitting down together turned into deep connection, laughter, real talk, and discovering they actually had more in common than anyone expected. It reminded us that sometimes all people really need is a seat at the table and someone willing to listen.

This is what Table Talk Aotearoa is about 💯
Bringing people together.
Breaking bread.
Sharing stories.
Seeing each other as humans first.

We plan to cook and share a meal once a week with everyday people from our communities, because connection shouldn’t be rare, it should be normal.

Thank you Don for trusting us, for your honesty, your laughs, and your presence. You made our first Table Talk unforgettable.
