When do bees produce honey? 🍯🐝

Bees mainly make honey in late spring & early summer. This is when there is a lot of nectar in flowers. 🌳🌼☘️
In summer a hive has up to about 60,000 bees!! In winter they drop to around 10,000 bees in the hive to conserve food.

Its feijoa season 🤩
I used recipe & used our Forest & Field honey for a caramel flavor 🍯

Recipe

Ingredients
Crumble:

75 g butter, diced
½ cup flour
¼ cup thread coconut
¼ cup rolled oats
½ cup brown sugar
Fruit Base:

12 ripe feijoas, peeled and sliced
2 apples, peeled and sliced
½ cup Cottee's Maple Flavoured Syrup ( or - if you don't have a sweet tooth do 1/4 cup)

Prep time: 10 minutes
Cook time: 35-40 minutes

Preheat the oven to 180°C.
To make the crumble place all ingredients into a food processor. Blend or pulse until combined.
Place the fruit in a souffle or baking dish.
Pour over maple syrup and mix.
Top with the crumble mixture.
Bake for 35-40 minutes, until fruit is cooked and crumble crisp and golden.

Our honey season started in September, taking our beehives to sites around the Waikato to make Forest & Field Honey. Meanwhile the rest of our bees were pollinating kiwifruit orchids.

We took our bees to the beach to make Country & Coast Honey. The beehives overlooked the ocean- not a bad working bee holiday!

We took our hives to Kanuka and Manuka sites. Unfortunately it was raining when the manuka was flowering so the bees were inside vs out foraging. But one site did really well despite the weather.

Our honey is at which does an amazing job at putting all our honey into jars ready to sell to our stockists and you!

Matt is now making more beehives & breeding queens to put in new hives. Meanwhile I'm stocking our lovely stockists with all the honey the bees made this season.

Our quiet season will look a little different this year as we welcome our first baby in May.
