🌳 From root-infested to flowing again.

These before and after images were taken at the exact same location inside a wastewater drain in Tamatea, Napier during a root cutting job completed this week.

Tree roots had entered the pipe through a defect and were growing inside the drain, restricting the available flow path and increasing the risk of recurring blockages.

Using specialist root cutting equipment, the root mass was removed from inside the pipe before the line was flushed and reinspected.

The difference between the two images shows just how much root growth can develop inside a drain before a complete blockage occurs.

Many recurring blocked drains, slow drains, gurgling toilets, and wastewater backups are caused by underlying defects that allow roots to enter the pipe.

Blocked gully in Havelock North — this is what slowly restricts the flow over time.

We attended a property after the outside gully stopped draining properly and began holding wastewater.

On inspection, the gully was heavily restricted with a build-up of sludge, debris, and organic waste that had gradually reduced the flow through the trap.
