The Smoking Barrel - Buldak Fried Chicken Noodle Burger
This is what we feel the competition is all about. The burger was fun, unique and expertly executed. It gave us flavours and textures we hadn’t had in a burger before and we hope this can make a return to the menu from time to time as we’d love to eat it all over again 😋
Arden - Fake Plastic Cheese Burger
There were a few smash pattie entries this year, but none pulled off a classic the way Arden did. This was really a fantastic illustration of just getting great ingredients (fake cheese aside 😆) and cooking them just right. Familiar flavours, but all elevated, this is a burger that is more than the sum of its parts. Also one of the best burger buns we had all comp for taste, texture and structural integrity 💪
Sprig + Fern Tāhunanui - One Night in Bangkok
Did as advertised, made us think of Thailand. From the light, crisp batter of the juicy chicken, to the spicy sauce coating it, to the fresh slaw, this burger nailed the classic Thai flavour profile of salty, sweet, spicy and sour. A perfect combination of tastes and textures. The generous portion of excellent chips also made this one of the more generous entries in terms of portion size. Just all around Yum 😋
Tides Bar & Eatery - Tides UFO Burger
On the surface, this entry had the potential to be just a gimmick, but we were so happily surprised. This was another entry that just got what a burger comp should be about. It was fun, unique, excellently executed and a flavour trip that was a banger on all levels. Great burger, great fries, great sauces. Couldn’t fault it 🙌
