Heartland Bank CEO Andrew Dixson publicly stated it was important for Heartland Bank to hear the views of the public, given how embedded TSB was in the community; "We would not want to proceed with a transaction where there was negative reaction or sentiment" he said. So let's send them a message, t...

Collard greens are a Southern American cuisine favourite. A staple in places such as South Carolina, Mississippi, Georgia, Alabama and Virginia, you’ll find these traditionally slow-simmered with garlic, butter, bacon, or smoked ham hocks. The robust leaves soften with slow cooking and create a rich pot liquor.

You can also shred these into a winter slaw, sauté or stirfry.

Best off all, they provide a real nutritional hit, being high in Vitamin K, as well as Vitamins A and C, calcium, and dietary fibre.

You’ll find these in our chillers and bright and early Thursday morning.

Wondering what to do with kohlrabi? It’s delicious in our homemade coleslaw. Simply peel and grate a whole kohlrabi, grate some of our organic orange and purple carrots, and add your favourite dressing.

We served ours tonight on fresh buns with beef Pattie’s, cheese and burger sauce. Delish!

If you’ve never tried kohlrabi, then head to or and pick up a bag of this delicious and versatile vegetable.

We love it grated in autumn coleslaw, or try roasting it, pickling it or a delicious winter soup.

It’s best when about the size of a tennis ball, and doesn’t have to be peeled. Super delicious, nutritious and full of flavour.

Farm cat Sprinkles has personality plus and loves playing under the shadenet, as well as hiding and waiting for any unsuspecting pests that might wander her way.

While weeding or prepping a bed she makes herself known with a distinctive meow and expects plenty of attention in the garden.

Fine autumn days are her favourite for enjoying the garden, rolling in the sun and soaking up the warmth.

Farm cat Sprinkles takes her rodent control job very seriously. Even ripping through the silage covers to find and conquer the mouse. She has mastered the art of ripping the plastic the spitting it out so she can extract the mouse from its hiding spot. Many hours… many holes… many mice no longer in the garden.

If you haven’t tried the skin care range from Roxbury Homestead then you’re missing out!
The solid lotion bar is the ONLY moisturiser that has made any impact on my rough garden hands.

It’s great to keep in the car as it’s a bar, and just warm between your hands the rub together. Super nourishing and moisturising. Made with double rendered beeswax, a blend of butters and oils, it really does make scratchy hands smooth again.

And, the gardener soap is amazing too. It actually buffs and removes the dirt from my hands. Perhaps it’s the magic combination of activated charcoal, kaolin clay or powdered walnut shell… but it’s the best hand cleaner I’ve found too.

The end of summer has truly arrived with the flowering of the Jerusalem Artichokes. Also known as Sunchokes, these flowers are as tall as sunflowers (a close relation) although much smaller heads. Swipe to see how they tower over me!

Once these flowers and plants die off (or we cut some for vases), the Jerusalem artichokes in the ground are ready to harvest - usually from late May.

The Jerusalem artichoke tubers can be roasted, puréed or made into soup, or even thinly sliced for chips. It’s a great root veggie that is underrated. We will let you know when it’s available!

Each year we know the weather is cooling and winter is on its way when the geese start flying.

It’s quite impressive to watch, with much to learn from geese honking. Their honks help with v-formation, switching positions efficiently. It also helps encourage leaders to keep up their speed and also keeps the flock connected.

It’s quite amazing to understand how these birds communicate and the effect their honking has on the collective group. I’ve admired them often, and think we could all benefit from “honking” at each other throughout our day. Whether it’s supporting kids ( yep, I’m the vocal mum cheering on the sidelines!) or trying to coordinate family life, the occasional “honk” could go a long way.
