Every year the same thing happens. Boxes come off, everyone needs extraction in the same fortnight, and the people who left it late wear the delay.

Paengaroa handles around 1,400 tonnes a year across our services, and we are adding a second extraction line to lift that further. Extracted, tested, matured and stored to one standard, with the compliance paperwork that exporters actually ask for.

There are three photos here, featuring three separate businesses.

Most honey operations own a single link in that chain and trade across the rest. It works until it doesn't, which is roughly what the last decade taught the industry.

Project 2030 is our commitment to coordinate the whole thing. ‘Project Foundation’ potentially opens up new land into mānuka. ‘Project Future’ connects beekeeper supply to brand demand before the season starts, not after. ‘Project Elevate’ expands the capacity to process what those two create.

Around 1,400 tonnes moves through our Paengaroa facility each year. And a second extraction line is coming.

A "Super El Niño" is coming this summer - and it's not the bad news you'd think.

Earth Sciences New Zealand declared El Niño conditions in July, saying it could rival the strongest events ever recorded. Cue the drought talk.

But we went back through the records. The last two big El Niño summers - 2015/16 and 2023/24 - were both good honey seasons. 2015/16 set a national record crop. 2023/24 was a bounce-back year, with beekeepers across most of the country posting above-average returns.

A strong El Niño isn't risk-free - dry country brings fire risk, and if the dry runs too long the nectar can shut off. Regional variation will be real. But history is fairly clear on which way the odds tend to cut.

At our recent Fieldays exhibition, we ran a competition challenging those to "Read The Green" and make a "simple" putt - all to win a year's supply of Bees Favour Manuka honey.

First Fieldays done ✅️ And better than we'd hoped.
Farmers, beekeepers, scientists, even the odd diplomat - turns out Fieldays is everyone.
We came to talk with landowners about what their land could be doing for them. And we did, in spades.
Massive thanks to our team, our partners, and everyone who stopped by for a yarn. You made it a great time.

And thats a wrap on our first Fieldays exhibition for Manuka Orchard - we've had countless conversations about all things apiculture, rural life and a future for honey that is looking up. Thanks to Bees Favour for the delicious honey - she was nearly a sellout! Also thanks to the Wai Mānuka team, genuinely was a fan favourite! Here's to the quiet time of winter, where we can recharge and look forward to a positive new season - starting with our Open Day on Friday July 24th (get in touch to register).
