Autumn leaves and fine mist….my favourite time of year.

Summers here are scorching hot with many days over 40 degrees. Winter is really cold; often zero or below in July.

I love the stark contrast of the seasons. Cleaning up autumn leaves is a worthwhile job for these few weeks of sensational colour. 🍂

Redwoods Forest - named after the Californian Redwoods planted here in 1901. Measuring around 235 metres tall, this area is the perfect setting for hiking, zip lining and mountain biking. I enjoyed a forest walk and a tree top walk here.

Wai-O-Tapo geothermal pools in the Taupo Volcanic area. These are some of the largest geothermal pools in NZ.

Known as the Champagne Pool, this one is approximately 65 metres wide, 62 metres deep and has a temperature of 74 degrees C. The “champagne bubble” appearance is created by carbon dioxide.

700 years ago, this pool was the result of hydrothermal eruption. Minerals such as gold, silver, mercury, sulphur and the like, are contained in these waters. The colours are truly magical !
