đŸ· Another great evening with Rotorua Tasters Club

A big thank you to Bruce Taylor, Chief Winemaker at Tohu Wines, for joining us tonight and taking us through such an interesting selection of Tohu wines. It was a real pleasure to hear the stories behind the wines and to get an insight into Bruce’s approach to winemaking.

It was particularly interesting to taste some of the less familiar and more unusual wines in the Tohu range — the Albariño, Riesling and barrel-aged Sauvignon Blanc were real highlights and gave us something a little different from the usual wine-tasting line up.

A huge thank you also to the team at Lime Cafe Rotorua, who opened specially for our club and looked after us so well. The meals were excellent, and the matched canapés were a wonderful addition to the tasting.

And finally, a special thank you to our committee members Rose, who put in the work behind the scenes to make the whole evening happen.

A great night of wine, food and good company. Thank you Bruce, Tohu Wines, the Lime CafĂ© team and Rose! đŸ·

đŸ· A great night of Tohu Wines — Thursday 27 August

We still have places available for what promises to be a terrific evening with Tohu Wines, at Lime Café in Rotorua.

We’ll be tasting eight wines from Tohu’s Marlborough range, including traditional-method sparkling, Riesling, Albariño, Pinot Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and two Pinot Noirs. Three of the wines will be matched with delicious canapĂ©s from Lime CafĂ©.

And, most importantly, we’ll be joined by Bruce Taylor, Chief Winemaker at Tohu. Bruce has been with Tohu since 2008 and brings a wealth of experience and insight into the wines and the places they come from. Tohu is the world’s first Māori-owned wine company, so this is a particularly interesting opportunity to hear directly from the winemaker.

On the tasting list:

1. Rewa Blanc de Blancs Méthode Traditionnelle
2. Whenua Awa Riesling
3. Whenua Matua Albariño
4. Whenua Awa Pinot Blanc
5. Marewa Sauvignon Blanc
6. Matangi Chardonnay
7. Whenua Matua Pinot Noir
8. Tohu One Single Pinot Noir

Thank you to everyone who joined us for another enjoyable evening of wine tasting. Around 40 members of our group attended, making for a relaxed and friendly night.

A special thank you to Michelle Fraser from Clearview Estate Winery Restaurant Cellar Door in Te Awanga, who expertly presented eight excellent wines and shared her knowledge and passion with us throughout the evening.

We’d also like to extend our sincere thanks to the wonderful staff at Lime Cafe Rotorua for opening especially for our group and for providing such warm and attentive service. Your hospitality is always greatly appreciated.

We look forward to seeing everyone again at our next tasting in late August. Back here shortly with the details.
