Our animal of the week!
Pinenut ( due to pigs enjoying eating our pinenuts in the treeline)
Pinenut came to us from friends whom had previously rehomed a Canterbury Blue sow to us.
She was found by herself on their farm at approximately 2-3 weeks old.
They are extremely intelligent & she learnt to sit from a young age. We were very attracted to the piglets when our Kune had a litter & would often spend the day babysitting.
Two seasons ago we introduced her to “Mr Birkenshire “ & she had 8 pigglets.
We enjoy our days napping & eating. Collecting things around the paddock to stash in our house!
We have a nose ring as these types of breeds usually dig for roots, grubs etc & can damage ground quickly., usually the ring detours this.

As the farm is on Winter break - I thought I need to do posts on our animals. Starting with the domestic ones.
Humphrey is our farm cat- a rescue- who’s 10 years old & enjoys hunting mice- baby rabbits & rats. As we get older we enjoy napping a lot!
Pidgy - whom several are familiar with - is our pigeon that came to us around 4 years ago. Two years ago she lost a foot. We don’t like other pigeons & tends to chase me round the house & farm , laying eggs every month - to then sit in her house for another month fiercely guarding them.
Lastly we have Ivy , our Border Terrier who is our rat catcher & enjoys coming round the farm when feeding out.
Hope you enjoy learning about them

We were thrilled to have the Student Uni Army volunteers here yesterday. Was a perfect weather day & smaller teams did several tidy up jobs for us, built feeders, planted grasses & built us a vege garden for the smaller animals.
Their help was much appreciated for the jobs we don’t get time to do & great to hear of what studies they are doing & future ambitions.
