Our Story
KOA Chocolates are handmade in the beautiful South Island of New Zealand by a master chocolatier. These exquisite chocolates, have a ganache with Mānuka honey centre dipped in the highest quality Belgian chocolate. KOA, meaning 'joy' in Māori, was created to support the Bois Gentil Kiwi Crèche (near Greymouth, New Zealand), and the protection of the Great Spotted Kiwi, with profits from sales going towards the crèche. In 2010, the Bois Gentil Kiwi Crèche opened as the only crèche in New Zealand dedicated to the protection of Great Spotted Kiwi (roroa) chicks. Consisting of twelve hectares of carefully monitored land and surrounded by a pest-proof fence, it provides a predator safe environment where young kiwis can spend the first year of their lives before being returned to the wild. As such, it plays an important role in helping maintain juvenile recruitment into the population of the Paparoa kiwi.
