🐑🔪 ‘Meat’ Murphy McSporran – our youngest apprentice! 🔪🐑

At just 17 years old, Murphy has already packed up and moved from Wairoa to Wellington to pursue his passion for butchery with the Cameron Harrison crew.

Murphy's love of the trade comes from years spent hunting and working on farms back home. After lending Rob a hand during the school holidays, it quickly became clear he had a real passion for the industry, and before long he was offered an apprenticeship with us here at CH.

Since joining the team in October last year, Murphy has been soaking up everything he can learn about the trade.
His favourite part of the job? Learning all the different gourmet cuts we produce, especially when it comes to chicken and lamb.

When he's not in the shop, you'll usually find him out in the hills around Wellington and the Wairarapa, helping with local pest control and making the most of the outdoors.

Murphy splits his time between our Upper Hutt and Ngaio stores, so if you see him behind the counter, be sure to say hello and give him a warm CH welcome! 👋

We're proud to be helping develop the next generation of Kiwi butchers and can't wait to see where Murphy's apprenticeship takes him.

📍 OUR LOWER HUTT BUTCHERY 📍

Did you know our Lower Hutt store at 829 High Street was the very first Cameron Harrison Butchery & Delicatessen site equipped to process wild game and home kill meat?

Back in April 2021, we took over the former Park Ave Meats site from Gordon and completely transformed it. New floors, walls, ceiling, chiller units and a fresh new fit-out saw the store reopen just a month later in May 2021.

Today, you'll find Justin, Geoff and our apprentices keeping the shelves stocked with quality meat, gourmet products and friendly service, 7 days a week.

This site helped us expand into wild game and home kill processing for local hunters and farmers, a service that has since grown across all four of our butcheries.

Whether you're after your weekly meat pack, a BBQ favourite, specialty cuts, home kill processing, or a few deli treats, we've got you covered right here in the heart of Lower Hutt.

🔪 Meet the CH Crew – Justin Smith 🤓

If you've visited our Lower Hutt or Ngaio butcheries over the last few years, chances are you've been served by Justin!

With over 12 years of butchery experience, mostly gained in supermarkets before joining the Cameron Harrison crew 4 years ago, Justin is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to quality cuts, cooking tips, and helping customers find exactly what they need.

One of the things Justin enjoys most about the job is getting to know our local customers and hearing how they've enjoyed his custom cuts or recommendations for cooking different meats at home.

When he's not behind the block, Justin is busy spending time with his family and preparing for an exciting new arrival – his second child is due next month! 👶
