Ayyyyyyyyymen 🌬️♥️

Before anyone says it, you’re right. Bills don’t pay themselves, and I’m not suggesting we abandon our obligations.

However, there’s a difference between meeting responsibilities and subscribing to hustle culture. You know, that relentless ideology insisting every moment must be optimized, monetized, or justify itself through output. It’s the belief that self-worth equals productivity, that rest is laziness, that if you’re not constantly grinding, you’re falling behind.

I’d like you to pause for a moment and imagine giving someone a carefully chosen gift, something you really thought about, only to see it sit unused in a corner. It would probably feel disappointing, as though the care and value you put into it hadn’t truly been received.

Now picture the opposite. They use it often, enjoy it fully, and their face lights up every time. That reaction feels like confirmation that your gift mattered.

The same principle applies to our lives. When we simply go through the motions and move from task to task, we leave the gift untouched. But when we actively enjoy and engage with our existence, we honor what we have been given. That kind of living is appreciation in action.

This doesn’t mean pretending everything is easy. Acknowledging that life can be genuinely difficult, that circumstances can be crushing, that privilege plays a role in who gets to step back, is absolutely crucial. Some people are trapped in survival mode through no fault of their own.

But for those with even small pockets of agency, choosing to be present, allowing yourself unproductive pleasure, and protecting moments of genuine connection are not selfish indulgences, but affirmations that you are more than what you produce.

The system wants you to believe that slowing down is failure or a lack of ambition, that contentment means complacency, and that if you are not hustling, you are wasting potential. But being fully alive and actually experiencing your days, rather than just surviving them, is both the point and the resistance. Life may not always be beautiful, but you deserve to witness the moments when it is.
