Hello BaBees! It’s been a while since I posted. A lot has been going on but I still show up regardless.

QuBees goes to Bicol!!

Thank you sir Greg of bee fresh farm for the training.
New learnings about beekeeping during this business trip/workshop.

Congratulations to the 51st batch of this stingless beekeeping training and workshop held at Guinobatan, Albay, Bicol Region.

Para sa akin, kung gusto ninyong mapabilis ang paglago at pagiging produktibo ng inyong farm o tinatayong gubat, magandang maglagay ng stingless bees.

Eh bakit naman? Una, ang stingless bees good pollinators kaya mahusay silang mag-pollinate ng mga bulaklak. Dahil dito, mas tumataas ang fruit set at seed production ng mga halaman at puno.

Pangalawa, mas maraming harvest sa mas malusog na halaman. Kapag mas maayos ang pollination, mas nagiging malalaki at de-kalidad ang bunga at mas marami ang nabubuong buto na tutubo bilang bagong halaman.

Pangatlo, ang stingless bees ay nagtataguyod ng mas balanseng ecosystem, dahil mas maraming halaman ang nakakapagparami. Malaking tulong sa biodiversity.

At syempre may dagdag na produkto. Maaari rin kayong makakuha ng stingless bee honey na may mataas na halaga sa merkado. Ang maliit na bote parang umaabot ng 250 pesos na agad eh.

Paano magkaroon ng stingless bees? Una, maghanap ng kolonya mula sa mga beekeeper o meliponiculture practitioners. Mas mainam bumili ng nasa kahon na (hived colony) kaysa kumuha sa wild para hindi masira ang natural na populasyon. Ang alam ko may mga nagbebenta o nagpaparenta ng colony.

Pangalawa ay dapat nakahanda na ang nga hive boxes. Ilagay ito sa lilim, tuyo, at hindi direktang naarawan o nauulanan. Ang halimbawa ng hive box ay yang nasa picture na kinunan ko sa Balay Buhay sa Uma Bee Farm sa Bulusan, Sorsogon.

At ito isa sa mga pinakamahala din .Magkaroon ng mga flowering plants sa paligid. Kailangan ng bees ng patuloy na supply ng nectar at pollen mula sa mga bulaklak ng puno o mga halaman.

At ito mahalaga din, huwag gumamit ng pesticide. Maraming kemikal ang nakakasama sa bees. Kung maaari, gumamit ng organic o bee-friendly pest control.

Sa madaling sabi, ang paglalagay ng stingless bees sa farm o gubat ay paraan para palakasin ang natural na pollination, na tumutulong sa mas mabilis na pagdami ng halaman, mas maraming bunga, at mas masiglang ecosystem.

Kaya para sa akin bilang forester, maganda maisama sa mga forest restoration programs sa Pilipinas ang pagkakaroon ng stingless bees colonies sa site. At syempre dapat may mga mga halamang namumulaklak na agad sa site.

Stingless bee honey finally getting the recognition it deserves. Especially for it’s health beneficial properties.

This is great news indeed!

RESEARCH | Stingless bee honey is gaining recognition as a superfood because of its exceptional health and therapeutic benefits, which rival—or even surpass—those of the world-famous Manuka honey. As a result, some now describe it as a “miracle liquid” and the “next superfood.” In our study, we developed a method using handheld X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy with machine learning techniques to screen or confirm whether honey from Philippine stingless bees is authentic. The model confirmed the origin of Philippine stingless bees with 94.1% accuracy and 100% specificity.
