OPEN LETTER TO THE PROVINCIAL GOVERNOR OF NEGROS ORIENTAL

Subject: Appeal for Immediate Assistance to Hog Raisers Amid Critically Low Hog Prices
Dear Governor Sagarbarria,

We, the hog raisers of Negros Oriental, respectfully seek your attention and support regarding the alarming decline in the buying price of live hogs in our province.
At present, many hog raisers are experiencing severe financial difficulties. While the market price of live hogs continues to fall, the cost of feeds, veterinary medicines, vitamins, transportation, and other production expenses remains high. As a result, many farmers are struggling to recover their investments, sustain their operations, and provide for their families.
The local hog industry plays a vital role in ensuring food security, creating employment opportunities, and contributing to the economic growth of our province. However, if the current situation continues, many small and medium-scale hog raisers may be forced to stop their operations due to heavy losses.
In this regard, we humbly appeal for your assistance in:
1. Studying and promoting measures that can help ensure fair farm-gate prices for locally raised hogs.
2. Providing support programs and interventions for hog raisers affected by declining market prices.
3. Strengthening the protection and competitiveness of locally produced pork against the impact of excessive meat importation.
4. Facilitating dialogue among hog raisers, traders, meat processors, and concerned government agencies to address the current crisis.
We firmly believe that with your leadership and support, practical solutions can be developed to help preserve and strengthen the hog industry in Negros Oriental.
