A Meaningful Visit from Hiroshima University to CCF Integrated Farm!

We were honored to welcome the students and professor from Hiroshima University, Japan, in partnership with VSU Animal Science, during their visit to CCF Integrated Farm.
Our guests enjoyed some of our local farm products and delicacies, including our authentic Kabkab, sweet EVIARC jackfruit, and refreshing Blue Ternate drink.
During our conversations, the Hiroshima University professor shared an encouraging perspective on the huge market potential of Ube and EVIARC jackfruit in Japan.
It is inspiring to hear that the crops we are growing here in Leyte can potentially reach international markets. We are truly blessed to have these agricultural treasures right here in our province.
And hopefully, within this year, we can launch our own Gatas ng Kalabaw in Ube and Jackfruit flavors, using our locally produced ingredients.
A simple farm visit today may become the beginning of bigger opportunities tomorrow.
From Leyte, with our own local products, to the world.

Today, the DENR Region VIII, together with the CENRO Baybay City, conducted an on-site inspection and inventory of the wildlife species maintained at the farm. The inspection focused on verifying the status, records, facilities, and proper management of the wildlife in accordance with Republic Act No. 9147 – Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act.
The inspection is an important step toward ensuring that CCF Integrated Farm’s wildlife collection is properly documented, managed, and maintained in compliance with existing wildlife regulations.
We sincerely appreciate the DENR Region VIII and CENRO Baybay City team for conducting the inspection and for their guidance as we work toward securing our Wildlife Farm Permit.
Conservation, responsible wildlife management, and sustainable farming—one step at a time.

A Simple Combination, A Beautiful Result!

It’s quite obvious why these coconut trees are carrying so many nuts!
Right beside the coconut trees is our goat house, providing a natural source of organic manure. At the same time, our stingless bees are actively working as pollinators around the farm.
And of course, we are very fortunate to have the Baybay Tall variety of coconut growing here at CCF Integrated Farm—a variety that has become an important part of our coconut-based farming system.
This is what integrated farming is all about:
🐐 Livestock + 🌴 Coconut + 🐝 Pollinators + 🌱 Healthy soil = A more productive and sustainable farm.
We continue to learn that when different components of the farm work together, the whole system becomes stronger. Slowly, sustainably, and naturally.

🌴 Another Step Towards Sustainable Coconut Farming! 🌴

Today, CCF Integrated Farm is proud to deliver around 700 Baybay Tall coconut seedlings to one of our friend's farms. Every seedling represents an investment in a greener, more productive, and more sustainable future.
This farm owner has an inspiring vision of developing a truly integrated farming system by combining Baybay Tall coconuts with high-value fruit trees, turmeric, and, in the near future, stingless bee (meliponiculture). This diversified approach will maximize land productivity, improve biodiversity, enhance pollination, and create multiple sources of income.
Looking further ahead, once the intercrop trees have fully matured, the farm also plans to introduce sheep as natural grazers. This will help control weeds, reduce mowing costs, recycle nutrients through manure, and further strengthen the farm's circular and sustainable production system.
At CCF Integrated Farm, we firmly believe that coconut-based integrated farming is one of the best pathways toward climate-resilient and profitable agriculture. By integrating trees, crops, livestock, and beneficial pollinators, farms become more productive, resilient, and environmentally friendly—creating a legacy that future generations can continue.

Another Success Story in Our Coconut-Based Farming System!

At CCF Integrated Farm, we are proud to share another proof that Aquilaria can thrive underneath a coconut plantation through proper crop integration and sustainable farm management.
By planting pineapple between the Aquilaria trees, we help reduce the amount of heat absorbed by the soil, conserve moisture, and maximize the productive use of every square meter of land. At the same time, the grasses removed during weeding are placed around each tree as mulch, helping suppress weeds, retain soil moisture, and naturally decompose into valuable organic fertilizer.
This simple but effective practice demonstrates that a coconut-based farming system can successfully support high-value timber trees while producing additional crops for better farm productivity and sustainability.
At CCF Integrated Farm, we continue to prove that diversified farming is not only possible—it is profitable, climate-smart, and environmentally friendly.

KATMON’S PROMISING EDGE🌿

Cancer cells can sometimes learn to resist chemotherapy, making drugs that once worked much less effective. In a UP Diliman study, however, a fraction taken from Katmon leaves stayed active even against colorectal cancer cells with a high level of drug resistance.

Researchers studied Dillenia philippinensis, or Katmon, a plant endemic to the Philippines. Among the leaf fractions they tested, one called DP1 showed the strongest activity against four breast and colorectal cancer cell lines.

The most interesting result came from HCT-15/Dox, a colorectal cancer cell line made highly resistant to the chemotherapy drug doxorubicin.

Doxorubicin became about 100 times less potent against these resistant cells compared with the original HCT-15 cells. DP1, on the other hand, became only about 2.5 times less potent. In other words, the Katmon fraction kept much more of its activity even as the cancer cells became harder to kill.

The researchers also found that DP1 could interfere with P-glycoprotein, one of the proteins cancer cells can use to pump drugs back out before they have enough time to work. At higher concentrations, DP1 reduced this pumping activity in the highly resistant cells.

The findings are promising, but they are still early. The experiments were done on cultured cells in the laboratory, not on patients, and researchers tested a specially prepared fraction from Katmon leaves rather than the leaves themselves.

Further studies are needed to identify which compounds are responsible and whether they can produce the same effects safely in animals and eventually in humans.

For now, Katmon gives researchers another interesting lead in the search for ways to understand and potentially overcome multidrug resistance in cancer.

The study was conducted by researchers from the UP Diliman Institute of Biology and published in the Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention.
