Held at the Conference Hall of the Bureau of Soils and Water Management, the 1st Philippine Salt Industry Council Meeting gathered key representatives from the Department of Agriculture, private stakeholders, salt farmersโ cooperatives, and the Leagues of Provinces and Municipalities to set the direction for revitalizing the countryโs salt industry.
The meeting focused on the implementation of Republic Act No. 11985, or the Philippine Salt Industry Development Act, which mandates the comprehensive development of both food and industrial-grade salt nationwide. Discussions included a presentation on the current state of the industry, the laying out of a national development roadmap, and an open forum for council members to share insights and recommendations.
As the lead policy and coordinating body under RA 11985, the Salt Industry Council is tasked with formulating strategic plans, harmonizing multi-agency efforts, and guiding investments and interventions to boost salt production and industry competitiveness.
With salt remaining as an essential commodity in food security, public health, and manufacturing, the meeting underscored the vital role of a unified, multi-sectoral approach in building a resilient and forward-looking salt industry for the Philippines.
