K&L EcoFeed is currently looking for businesses, food establishments, markets, institutions, and organizations in Hinigaran and La Carlota City that are willing to contribute their food waste for waste conversion through Black Soldier Fly (BSF) farming ♻️

Instead of allowing food waste to end up in landfills or become an environmental burden, we can help convert these organic materials into valuable resources.

Our facility in Pontevedra, Negros Occidental is preparing to handle up to 1 TON of suitable food waste per day starting next week to support our BSF larvae production.

Accountability in Action, Responsibility in Waste Management. ♻️

K&L Ecofeed, together with Mr. Aldwin Torq of Bioflyt, was honored to attend the 2026 Solid Waste Management (SWM) and Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) Summit of DENR-EMB, carrying the theme: “Accountability in Action: Navigating the Next Era of Ecological SWM and EPR — Shared Responsibility in Waste Management.”

The summit brought together different Local Government Units (LGUs) across the Negros Island Region (NIR), environmental practitioners, and other government representatives to strengthen collaboration and explore innovative approaches to solid waste management, waste diversion, and circular economy solutions.

It was a meaningful opportunity to connect, learn, and strengthen our commitment to turning waste into valuable resources through Black Soldier Fly (BSF) technology. 🪰🌱

Black Soldier Fly Larvae - A promising sustainable alternative to conventional fishmeal 💯

|| Researchers from DA-NFRDI and partner institutions from SEAFDEC/AQD and UP Visayas, found that Black Soldier Fly larval meal (BSFLM), produced by converting agricultural by-products such as okara and coconut pulp into protein-rich larvae, is a promising sustainable alternative to conventional fishmeal. In Nile tilapia diets, BSFLM replaced up to 80 percent of fishmeal without compromising growth, feed utilization, or survival, with the best results observed at a 40 percent replacement level.

Beyond supporting fish growth, BSFLM was shown to be safe for tilapia and may help strengthen resistance against disease. By transforming organic waste into a valuable feed ingredient, the technology could reduce dependence on costly fishmeal, improve resource efficiency, and promote more sustainable and potentially profitable aquaculture.

1. WHY ARE WE PUSHING FOR BLACK SOLDIER FLY PROTEIN?

Fish meal, soybean meal, and BSF meal can all provide protein, but relying heavily on imported fish meal and soybean meal creates important challenges. Imports can be affected by rising prices, transport costs, supply disruptions, foreign exchange rates, and international demand. Fish meal also depends on wild-caught fish, which can place pressure on marine ecosystems. Soybean production may require large areas of land, water, and long-distance transportation, and imported soy can make local feed producers vulnerable to global market changes.

BSF protein offers a practical local alternative. By producing Black Soldier Fly larvae locally, we can reduce dependence on imported ingredients, strengthen local feed security, create new opportunities for farmers and businesses, and keep more value within our communities. BSF is not simply about replacing fish meal or soybean meal, it is about adding a natural, locally produced, and circular source of protein to a more resilient feed system.
