1. WHY ARE WE PUSHING FOR BLACK SOLDIER FLY PROTEIN?
Fish meal, soybean meal, and BSF meal can all provide protein, but relying heavily on imported fish meal and soybean meal creates important challenges. Imports can be affected by rising prices, transport costs, supply disruptions, foreign exchange rates, and international demand. Fish meal also depends on wild-caught fish, which can place pressure on marine ecosystems. Soybean production may require large areas of land, water, and long-distance transportation, and imported soy can make local feed producers vulnerable to global market changes.
BSF protein offers a practical local alternative. By producing Black Soldier Fly larvae locally, we can reduce dependence on imported ingredients, strengthen local feed security, create new opportunities for farmers and businesses, and keep more value within our communities. BSF is not simply about replacing fish meal or soybean meal, it is about adding a natural, locally produced, and circular source of protein to a more resilient feed system.
