When All You Have Seems Too Little
A widow came to the prophet Elisha with nothing but fear and a small jar of oil. Her husband had died, her debts were overwhelming, and creditors were about to take her sons as payment. She expected a miracle to come from somewhere else.
Instead, Elisha asked a simple question:
“What do you have in your house?”
She replied, “Nothing… except a small jar of olive oil.”
That “except” changed everything.
God didn’t begin with what she lacked. He began with what she already had. As she faithfully poured the oil into every empty jar she could gather, the oil never ran out until every vessel was filled. The miracle stopped only when there were no more empty jars.
How often do we focus on what we don’t have? We say, “I only have a little talent,” “I only have a small income,” “I only have a little time,” or “I only have enough strength to get through today.”
But throughout Scripture, God delights in multiplying what we surrender to Him. He doesn’t ask us to bring abundance before He works. He asks us to trust Him with what is already in our hands.
Don’t despise your small beginning. Your little, placed in God’s hands, can become more than enough—not only to meet your own needs, but to become a blessing to others.
Sometimes the greatest miracle isn’t receiving something new. It’s discovering that God can multiply what you thought was never enough.
“Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin.” — Zechariah 4:10
