We had a late lunch at **Modern Shanghai** around 3 PM, so naturally, we expected a more relaxed and attentive dining experience. Surprisingly, there were only about three or four occupied tables including ours, yet the service was easily the most disappointing part of the visit.

For our meal, we ordered the Chicken Feet, Xiao Long Bao, Emperor's Feast, and Tea-Smoked Roast Crispy Pork. The food was decent enough—nothing particularly memorable, but nothing offensive either. The chicken feet were tender, the xiao long bao delivered the expected burst of broth, and the roast chicken had a nice crisp skin. Overall, the dishes were okay, but not outstanding enough to justify a return visit on food alone.

What really brought the experience down was the service. Orders, requests, and basic table attention felt frustratingly slow despite the restaurant being far from busy. For a restaurant under The Bistro Group, there’s a certain level of hospitality and professionalism you expect, and unfortunately, this visit fell well below that standard.

It's disappointing when a restaurant has every opportunity to provide excellent service—few diners, plenty of staff, and a reputable brand behind it—but still misses the mark. Even more disappointing is that the food wasn't strong enough to make up for the experience.

Unfortunately, this was one of those meals where the service is what you'll remember most—and not in a good way.

If you're looking for a no-frills local spot with generous servings, **Ulo-Ulo Karinderya** is worth checking out. We ordered the house specialty, **Ulo-Ulo**, and a side of **laing**.

The Ulo-Ulo was definitely the highlight. The serving was surprisingly generous—good enough for two people to share comfortably. The broth was flavorful and comforting, with the fish head adding richness without being overwhelming. It's the kind of dish that feels home-cooked and satisfying, especially when paired with hot rice.

The laing, on the other hand, was just okay for me. It wasn't bad, but I've had better versions with a creamier texture and deeper coconut flavor. It complemented the meal, but it wasn't something I'd come back for specifically.

Overall, Ulo-Ulo Karinderya delivers where it matters: hearty portions, affordable prices, and comforting Filipino food. If it's your first visit, the Ulo-Ulo is an easy recommendation.

Yardstick is one of those cafés that keeps things simple but does them really well. Tried the Sir Earl coffee and it instantly stood out—smooth, balanced, and comforting without being too sweet. It has that kind of flavor you can slowly sip and actually enjoy from start to finish.

The donut was also a pleasant surprise. Super soft, light, and fresh—the kind that melts a little with every bite. Sometimes cafés focus too much on the coffee and forget the pastries, but this pairing worked perfectly.

Overall, Yardstick gives that clean, relaxed café experience with quality drinks and pastries that don’t try too hard. Definitely a good spot for slow mornings or quiet coffee dates.

Cuchara Filipino Buffet didn’t quite hit the mark for me. The selection felt a bit limited, especially if you’re expecting a wide spread of Filipino favorites.

It’s the kind of buffet that works better if you’re not too particular and just want a bit of everything in one place.

That said, there were a few standouts—the lechon paksiw was rich and flavorful, the escargot was surprisingly enjoyable, and the gulaman drink was refreshing and a nice break in between plates.

Overall, it’s okay—good enough if you’re exploring or dining with a group with different tastes, but not somewhere I’d specifically go back to for variety.

Tried It’s A Thai – Bucal Calamba and kept it simple with Tom Kha G*i, Thai tea, and steamed rice.

The Tom Kha G*i was the star—clean, comforting, and well-balanced. You get that creamy coconut base with a light tang, but it doesn’t feel heavy or overpowering. Even with the no garlic and onion request, the flavors still came through nicely, which says a lot about how well it’s made.

Thai tea was your usual sweet, creamy fix—nothing groundbreaking but does the job. Paired with hot rice, it made for a satisfying, no-fuss meal.

Overall, a solid pick if you’re craving something warm and flavorful without being too rich. Simple order, but it delivered.

Hidden Jade Cuisine really lives up to its name—tucked inside Wilcon, it’s one of those spots you wouldn’t expect but ends up surprising you. A true “hidden gem” moment. Hidden Jade Cuisine

We ordered quite a spread: hakaw, yang chow fried rice, mapo tofu, chicken feet, oyster cake, radish cake, mango sago, and pata tim.

The radish cake stood out—crispy outside, soft inside, and super satisfying. Hakaw was plump and juicy, and the yang chow fried rice had that classic wok flavor.

Mapo tofu had a nice kick without being overwhelming, while the chicken feet were tender and well-seasoned. Oyster cake was a nice add-on—savory and filling.

Ending with mango sago was the right move—refreshing and not too sweet.
Only downside? The pata tim didn’t quite hit the mark—lacked depth and didn’t have that melt-in-your-mouth texture you’d hope for.

Overall, Hidden Jade Cuisine is worth the find. Great variety, solid flavors, and definitely a spot I’d come back to—just maybe skip the pata tim next time.

Ordered the mixed bucket to try all the flavors—lavender earl grey, red velvet, vanilla, and choco orange—but it arrived cracked and… well, blended into each other.

Flavor-wise, still good. You can tell each one had its moment—the lavender earl grey was fragrant, red velvet rich, choco orange a bit citrusy—but everything kind of bled into each other, so you don’t really get to enjoy them as intended.

This is exactly why I’m not a fan of mixed buckets. It looks fun in theory, but doesn’t travel well.

Lesson learned: next time, sticking to single-flavor tubs for the full experience.

Cutest grocery aisle find that I definitely did not need… but had to have. This Pikachu furikake from Marumiya is pure serotonin in a bottle.

Beyond the adorable packaging (I mean, look at that face 🥺), it’s actually pretty good too.

Classic Japanese rice topper with a light egg and savory flavor—simple, a little sweet-salty, and perfect for turning plain rice into something you’ll finish in minutes. Kid-friendly, but honestly, adult-approved.

Pro tip: sprinkle generously on hot rice, or even on eggs for an extra pop of flavor.

Not life-changing, but the joy-to-price ratio? 10/10. Would buy again just to see Pikachu on my shelf.

First time dining in at Steak To One. The place is on the smaller side, but it makes for a more focused, no-frills dining experience.

Ordered steaks, and they delivered—just as good as expected. Well-seasoned, properly cooked, and consistently satisfying.

A pleasant surprise was the strawberry matcha. Not overly sweet, well-balanced, and easily one of the best I’ve tried in the metro.

Overall, a solid spot for a reliable steak fix, with a standout drink worth coming back for.
