CORDILLERA IS WORLD-CLASS TOURIST DESTINATION

The Cordillera Administrative Region has strengthened its reputation as a world-class and sustainable tourism destination after five of its tourism sites and facilities earned top honors at the ASEAN Tourism Standards Awards 2026, held recently in Cebu City.

Among the awardees was the Cordillera Convention Hall at Baguio Country Club in Baguio City, which received the ASEAN MICE Venue Award for Exhibition Venue. Another facility within the club, Infinity Garden, was recognized under the Event Venue Category. Le Monet Hotel, also in Baguio City, was conferred the ASEAN Green Hotel Award for its environmentally responsible operations.

Highlighting rural and community-based tourism, the Ganduyan Eco-Trail and Farm Experience in Sagada earned the ASEAN Sustainable Tourism Award – Rural Category, showcasing how local communities can lead conservation-driven tourism while preserving culture and livelihoods.

Meanwhile, Tabuk City received the ASEAN Clean Tourist City Award for the second time, recognizing its sustained efforts in cleanliness, safety, and sustainable urban tourism practices.

According to Department of Tourism–Cordillera Regional Director Jovita A. Ganongan, the awards affirm the region’s commitment to quality tourism, sustainability, and cultural preservation while meeting global standards. She added that the recognitions inspire traveler confidence and highlight the Cordilleras as a responsible and competitive destination in Southeast Asia.

The honors were conferred during the ASEAN Tourism Standards Awards, one of the highest regional recognitions for destinations and facilities that promote responsible tourism.

Cordillera’s achievements were further showcased at the Love the Philippines Regional Showcase, held alongside the ASEAN Tourism Forum from January 26 to 30. During the event attended by ASEAN tourism ministers, Ganongan presented how Abra, Apayao, Benguet, Ifugao, Kalinga, Mountain Province, and Baguio City contribute to the country’s diverse tourism landscape.

She emphasized the region’s indigenous creativity, rich heritage, and distinctive visitor experiences, reinforcing the Cordilleras’ identity as not just a scenic destination, but a model of sustainable, culture-rooted tourism that can stand proudly on the world stage.
