INCIDENT LAST NIGHT AT YATO’S CAFE
We always believe in the saying, “The customer is always right.” But does that mean a business should always remain silent, even when its patience, kindness, and understanding are repeatedly tested?
Unfortunately, last night, another unpleasant incident happened involving the same group of customers.
And sadly, this was not the first, not the second, but already the THIRD incident.
1ST INCIDENT — THE ₱500 BILL
A ₱500 bill was handed to our cashier, taken back, and then handed over again in a manner that caused confusion at the counter.
2ND INCIDENT — REPEATED ORDER CLAIMS
There were repeated claims involving orders that had already been served, causing confusion among our staff.
3RD INCIDENT — LAST NIGHT
Another incident involving repeated claims for the same orders happened again.
Aside from these incidents, there were also instances of entering our café shirtless or without wearing a top, which we consider inappropriate in a dining establishment.
And let’s not forget that this same group was previously given consideration when our café’s microphone, worth ₱5,000, was damaged. We chose not to demand payment.
We kept choosing patience. We kept choosing understanding. We kept choosing peace.
Last night, to avoid further arguments, we decided to simply return their money and no longer charge them for the food they had already consumed.
Maybe that was our mistake.
Maybe we were too understanding.
Maybe we were too willing to sacrifice our own business just to avoid conflict.
BUT LET US ASK ONE SIMPLE QUESTION: WERE WE STILL WRONG?
Was it wrong to protect our staff?
Was it wrong to expect honesty and respect?
Was it wrong to finally set boundaries after giving so many chances?
We understand that mistakes and misunderstandings can happen. But when similar situations happen repeatedly, we also have the responsibility to protect our business and our people.
Yato’s Cafe is a small business built with hard work, sacrifices, and dreams.
Every peso matters. Every order matters. Every piece of equipment matters. And most importantly, our staff deserve respect too.
We welcome everyone who wants to enjoy good food, good coffee, and good company.
But please remember:
OUR KINDNESS IS NOT AN INVITATION TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF US.
RESPECT GOES BOTH WAYS.
We don’t want trouble. We only want fairness, honesty, and a peaceful environment for everyone.
CUSTOMERS DESERVE GOOD SERVICE, BUT SMALL BUSINESSES DESERVE RESPECT TOO.
