Itinatag noong 1972 ang Hoyas Canteen ni Chan Lo, isang Chinese national na kilala sa bansag na "Hoya".

Mula sa kanyang palayaw hinango ang pangalang Hoyas Restaurant na unang itinayo sa Puso Mall ng Hagonoy noong dekada '70.
