Diabetes Mellitus is a non-communicable disease characterized by chronic high blood sugar levels in the body, caused by the inability of the body to produce insulin (Type 1 Diabetes), insulin resistance of the body's cells (Type 2 Diabetes), or hormonal changes during pregnancy (Gestational Diabetes Mellitus).
Over time, Diabetes Mellitus, when not properly managed, can damage the body's organs and blood vessels and may increase the risk of developing other non-communicable diseases.
The DOST-FNRI encourages everyone to practice the ๐ก๐๐๐ฟ๐ถ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป๐ฎ๐น ๐๐๐ถ๐ฑ๐ฒ๐น๐ถ๐ป๐ฒ๐ ๐ณ๐ผ๐ฟ ๐๐ถ๐น๐ถ๐ฝ๐ถ๐ป๐ผ๐, especially by limiting the intake of sugar-rich foods, attaining and maintaining a normal body weight through proper diet and moderate physical activity to prevent obesity, being physically active, making healthy food choices, managing stress, and avoiding alcoholic beverages and smoking to help prevent the development of non-communicable diseases.
