π Large Nodules in Lumpy Skin Disease:
Why They Become Hard and Tumor-like?
In cases of severe Lumpy Skin Disease, skin nodules often become large, firm, and persistent. This is mainly due to two key pathological processes: tissue necrosis and fibrosis.
1. Tissue Necrosis (Cell Death)
L*D virus has a strong tropism for skin, blood vessels, and lymphatic tissues.
Pathogenesis:
* The virus causes vasculitis (inflammation of blood vessels).
* Blood supply to the affected skin is severely reduced.
* Oxygen and nutrient deprivation leads to ischemic cell death (necrosis).
Result:
* Central degeneration of nodules
* Formation of hard necrotic cores
* Development of characteristic βsitfastsβ (dead tissue plugs)
* Possible ulceration and skin sloughing
2. Fibrosis (Excess Scar Formation)
After tissue damage, the body initiates repair.
Healing process:
* Fibroblasts migrate into damaged tissue.
* They produce large amounts of collagen fibers.
* Instead of normal regeneration, excessive collagen is deposited.
Result:
* Thickened, firm, fibrous nodules
* Permanent scar formation
* Tumor-like appearance of healed lesions
