Cacao is back. The finest flavor and aroma comes from Puerto Rico ❤️

🍫 Cacao is Rising Again in Borikén
🍫 El Renacer del Cacao en Borikén

Once sacred to our Taíno ancestors, cacao is reclaiming its rightful place in the soil—and the soul—of Puerto Rico. After centuries of colonization buried its roots beneath sugarcane and coffee plantations designed to feed foreign empires, a new generation of Boricuas is restoring the island’s ancient relationship with chocolate. This is more than a culinary trend—it’s a return to memory, to land, to self.

Across the archipelago, cacao farms and chocolateries are planting seeds of sovereignty and self-sufficiency.

In Ciales, the Santuario de Cacao collaborates with small producers to recover native cacao varieties, producing bean-to-bar chocolate that’s won international acclaim.

In Fajardo, Hacienda Chocolat grows its own cacao and crafts estate-made chocolate of exceptional quality, proving Borikén’s cacao can rival the world’s best.

In Old San Juan, Don Ruiz Chocolate offers everything from classic chocolate bars to gourmet truffles, showcasing Boricua refinement in every bite.

Out west in Bo. Laguna, Aguada, Hacienda Jeanmarie Chocolat is raising the bar by focusing on fine-flavor and aromatic cacao for the high-end boutique chocolate market. With strict standards of excellence, they’re carving out space for Puerto Rico in the world of premium chocolate exports.

And of course, there’s the legendary Chocolate Cortés—a Boricua icon since 1929. With its signature chocolate bars and Chocobar Cortés cafés in San Juan and New York City, Cortés continues to invest in the local cacao economy and uplift our chocolate culture.

This isn’t just about sweets—it’s about land, legacy, and liberation. The cacao renaissance is living proof that Borikén can grow, create, and thrive—on its own terms.

Cacao is back. And it tastes like freedom.
