THE BEGINNING:
It all started back in 1977, when two entrepreneurial minded Gorajia brothers were seeking a business opportunity in Bujumbura, Burundi. With a hard working, determined, passionate and business minded personality, the two Gorajia brothers were able
to create the dealership into an automotive power house, which till today stands as one of Burundi's landmarks. RECOGNITION:
Building on the success of the dealership, manufacturing brands nominated Akagera Motors S.A.R.L as the exclusive distributor for those respective brands for the territory of Rwanda in 1997. As more business ventures were added to the business portfolio, Akagera Motors S.A.R.L was transformed to Akagera Business Group LTD in 2008. BRIEF PROFILE:
Akagera Business Group (ABG) was established in Kigali, Rwanda and diversified into nine different divisions dealing in automobiles, tires, batteries, lubricants, media, consumer goods, consumer electronics, design & construction, car rentals & leasing, hardware & paints, and security & safety systems. Currently ABG has its presence in Burundi, Rwanda , South Sudan and Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. ABG has 265 plus employees, inclusive of approximately 20 plus expatriates of different nationalities throughout the nine divisions. ABG turnover reached $50 Million in 2016. ABG DIVISIONS:
AKAGERA MOTORS: Established in 1997, is the exclusive distributor for Mahindra, Toyota, Mercedes Benz, MCV, Foton & Fuso. Akagera Motors is responsible for revolutionizing the public transport sector of Rwanda by being the first to offer vehicle financial leasing for medium and large size buses. AKAGERA AUTO ZONE: Established in 2008, is the exclusive distributor for Chloride Exide batteries, Yana tires, Yokohama tires, Maxtrek tires, Wanli Tires, Shell lubricants & Motorol mubricants. Akagera Auto Zone supplies to a network of government organizations, non-government organizations, transport companies, institutions, fleet accounts and end retail consumers. AKAGERA CAR RENTALS: Established in 2010, serves customers by offering car rentals and fleet management to meet the markets growing needs. Fleet management offers GPS tracking of vehicles, maintenance of vehicles within the fleet and much more. Akagera Car Rentals pioneered the operational lease product for medium size vehicles for corporates in Rwanda. ABG customer base for operational leases include corporates like Bralirwa, TIGO, Banque Populaire, Prime Bank, Skol and KK Security to name a few. AKAGERA ELECTRONICS: Established in 2010, is the exclusive distributor for Samsung, Beko and Elekta brand product range of Consumer Electronics (CE) and Hand Held Phones (HHP) for Rwanda and Burundi. Akagera Electronics offers a range of products from televisions, phones, home appliances, air conditioning systems, information technology systems and business to business solutions. AKAGERA TRADING: Established in 2008, trades in a product range of 3,000 plus SKU's from various suppliers around the world. Akagera Trading supplies 300 plus super & mini markets in Rwanda bringing the right product and quantity at the right time while building relationships with 40 different manufactures and importing its products from Kenya, United Kingdom, Belgium, USA, India, and Italy. Akagera Trading provides a wholesale distribution network for FMCG for major brands wanting to distribute in Rwanda, Burundi and Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. AKAGERA HARDWARE & PAINTS: Established in 2006, offers a one stop solution for materials ranging from paints, tiles, construction material & chemicals, and sanitary products. Akagera Hardware & Paints is the exclusive distributor for Basco & Dura Coat Paints, Insumat, Oman Cables and Hindware in Rwanda. AKAGERA MEDIA: Established in 2008, offers advertising infrastructures in the form of billboards, wall frames, wall branding, and bus shelters all across Rwanda in major cities and the interior countryside as well as providing giveaway materials and corporate gifts. Akagera Media has strategically placed media infrastructure to gain the most amount of impressions from the mass market for the customer. AKAGERA DESIGN & CONSTRUCTION: Established in 2012, is the newest division to join ABG. Akagera Design & Construction has the ability to design and build commercial, industrial, and residential infrastructure in Rwanda and Burundi with strategic partners from Italy. Projects under development are:
BLUE TANGANYIKA COMPLEX: Mixed use development in Burundi city center with nearly 80,000 M2 of built space. AMAREMBO CITY CENTER: Mixed use development in Rwanda city center with nearly 91,000 M2 of built space. VIRAGO COMPLEX: 4,000 M2 office block completed in mid 2013, handed over to Burundi Revenue Authority (OBR) as their headquarter building in October 2013. KIRIRI GARDEN HOTEL: 4 star hotel, 75% completed, in the Kiriri hills of Bujumbura. STRENGTHS:
