Always the same question every time Iโm here: why so little soup?? ๐
For me, Yan Ji is one of those places you come back to expecting a certain standard, especially with something as simple as seafood soup. The broth still holds up - light & naturally sweet without feeling overworked. You can tell itโs been done properly (just that it never quite gives you enough of it).
Thatโs really the issue here. Once you start eating and lifting out the ingredients, the soup disappears faster than it should. And youโre left wondering why a soup-focused dish feels soโฆ limited. The prawns look the part, big and vibrant, but are slightly overcooked, losing that sweet, bouncy bite youโd hope for.
My fave as usual are the minced meat patties. Always safe, theyโre easily the most satisfying flavoured with ti por and give the dish some much-needed depth. Overall, itโs still a decent bowl, but one that feels a little short-changed.
