The first week after birth is a time of healing, adjustment, and recovery. 🤍

In many confinement traditions, meals during Days 1–7 are thoughtfully prepared to provide gentle nourishment, support rebuilding strength, and ease digestion as the body recovers from childbirth.

From warming soups to protein-rich dishes, each meal serves a purpose during this important phase of postpartum recovery.

We thought packing would be the easy part … turns out, not really 😆

When we first started, we only had newspapers and cardboard boxes to protect our rice wine bottles. Looking back, it was quite risky, but we worked with what we had.

Does anyone remember those days? Let us know 🙈

As we grew, we upgraded to bubble wrap, making every delivery much safer and more secure, just like the packaging you receive today 😆

Do you know that 3 Cup Chicken isn’t actually literally 3 cups of everything? That would be so salty 😆

It’s called that because the original recipe is said to use three key ingredients in equal proportions: soy sauce, sesame oil, and rice wine. Over time, different families have adapted the recipe to their own taste, but the name stuck.

Here’s our recipe that we have tried, tested, proven below. Give this a try for your next weekday dinner! ✨

⏱️ 15–20 mins | 🍽️ Serves 2

Ingredients
• 2 chicken drumsticks or breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces
• 3 tbsp soy sauce
• 3 tbsp sesame oil
• 1/4 cup yellow rice wine
• 3 tbsp olive oil
• 1-inch ginger, sliced
• 1/4 cup basil leaves
• 2 chillies, sliced (optional)
• 2 tbsp dark soy sauce (optional)

Method
• Heat olive oil and sauté ginger until fragrant.
• Add chillies and cook briefly.
• Add chicken and cook until lightly browned.
• Pour in soy sauce, rice wine, and sesame oil. Stir well.
• Add dark soy sauce if using.
• Cover and simmer for 15–20 minutes.
• Remove the lid and let the sauce reduce slightly.
• Stir in basil leaves and serve. ✨
