Orang Laut SG We are the Orang Laut, or the people of the sea who once the occupants of Pulau Semakau.

We are the OGs of this beautiful island we once called home, with an ancestry of islanders and seafarers from the Riau Islands.

Food has always been a way to spend time with and show love to each other, and our nights with Pulau to Table weren’t any different 🍽️

We spent 2 nights gathered around the flavours and stories of the Orang Pulau. From the experience and kitchens of Mdm Rohaini and Mdm Nooraini, we had a 5 course meal, prepared with love and care By Chef Azfar - reimagining Southern Islander cuisine 🌊

Thank you Chef Azfar Azfar Maswan and Sue sue.cahayaa for your special hands, Dutch Colony Coffee Co. for hosting us and Singapore HeritageFest for letting these special nights be part of Singapore HeritageFest 🤍

Until we eat again 🐡

we kick started a happening May with Bubu & the Big Catch 🎣 where we learned all about bubu traps and made fishy friends with our own hands!🐟🐠🐡

we always seek to introduce our local, native knowledge about the land and sea around us to little ones from a young age. they were also the first to hear about our recent research project - documenting maritime species from the Orang Laut perspective ! 🤿

as we keep swimming along, we hope to keep building the connection to the knowledge from our elders in a fun, accessible, and grounded manner 🧜‍♀️🐡 til the next!

Rooted in the experience and kitchens of Mdm Rohaini and Mdm Noor Aini, this dining experience brings the flavours of Orang Pulau heritage to life. Reimagined by Chef Azfar, each of the 5 courses tells a story of island life, memory, and the jiwa laut that continues to connect us.

This programme is presented as part of Festival. An intimate evening of taste, storytelling, and rediscovery happening on 8 & 9 May 2026, 7.30pm at Dutch Colony Elementum.

This weekend is going to be an eventful one for us !💯🎬

On the 2nd of May, we will be bringing Joget Dangkung to Malay Heritage Centre, with Mak Dare from Tanjung Pinang, Bintan - coming to Singapore for the first time!

Joget Dangkung is a shared cultural tradition among the Riau region, and was a communal practice on the Southern Islands during festive events. 🏝️

Mak Dare, as the only female Joget Dangkung troupe leader, will be sharing stories from her life as a performer and cultural custodian, and giving us a glimpse into this living tradition. 💃

Join us for an Exclusive Film Screening of Dara Duka by Novi Asti, and Joget with a living legend this Saturday! 👯🎥🍿

This Raya was a special one. The Pulau Semakau community came together, if only for a moment, to celebrate, reconnect, and share memories of the island. While the island may now be a fond memory, the Jiwa Laut keeps us connected, through our stories, our traditions, and one another.

Throwback to our annual Bubur Lambuk Ikan Tenggiri Ramadan distribution on 11th and 14th March! 🐟🥣

We've been running this annual bubur lambuk distribution since 2021 as a way to give back to the community, and this year was extra special. We were delighted to have our dear friend, Chef , join us with his sweet treat, Bubur Sum Sum. Also, a big thank you to for opening up the space for us 💙

We hope you enjoyed our labour of love! The combination of sweet and savoury bubur was made to brighten your day and share a little taste of our heritage. see you at the next one! :)
