Over 70 years of wine history
By opening a new business in Singapore, 2017 marks an important new chapter in our family business. Sascha Alexander Bäggli, born 1991, is now the fourth generation of wine traders and direct descendant of the well-known CAVE BB wine business based in Zumikon, Zurich, Switzerland.
Just two weeks before the outbreak of WWII my great-grandfather Emil Bäggli Sr. acquired the Hotel Rothus in the very heart of Zurich's old town. Already back in the early 1940's he travelled the wine regions of Bordeaux and Burgundy extensively to taste and select the best wines, import them in barrels and have them bottled in his own underground cellars.
Later, in the early Sixties, my grandfather Emil Bäggli Jr. opened a wine store at Zurich's Seefeldstrasse, already selling specialities such as Lafite, Petrus and Mouton Rothschild which was very unusual at that time. With the purchase of the Restaurant Riesbächli in 1972 he returned to gastronomy and realised his lifetime dream to combine the restaurant business with a wine shop. Already back in the mid 1970's the wine list of the restaurant had a massive selection of over 1'200 bottles, mainly from Bordeaux and Burgundy.
