We started this business because we were so shocked, angry and devastated about the impact of irresponsible plastic use across the world. It is estimated that 8m tonnes of plastic goes into the sea every year. As plastic doesn't biodegrade it breaks down into smaller pieces, killing sea mammals like turtles. Microplastics get ingested by plankton, entering our food system. The tragedy is that most
of this plastic is used for such a short time, yet last so long. Our over-consumption of this material could mean that by 2050 there is more plastic in the sea than fish. We decided to start with single-use plastic straws. These are one of the most common items washed up on beaches around the world. Plastics also account for 6% of our global oil supply. Next time petrol prices go up, remember there's oil in your straw. We work with the food & beverage industry (as the main users of plastic straws) to find a better alternative, that works for them, their customers, and the environment. We offer REUSABLE or BIODEGRADABLE products over CONSUMABLE. We lease reusable stainless steel straws to cafes and bars. We also provide reusable bamboo straws and biodegradable paper straws. Not only are they better for the environment, we also think they look a hell of a lot better than those plastic straws! As we're a social business, all our profits fund beach-clean ups.
