Hiša Polonka, Kobarid, Slovenia -It’s cozy and inviting and the kind of place that encourages for long conversations over food, w**e and laughs.
Share some dishes and order some Slovenian w**e or b**r with it. Valter Kramar is also a sommelier and there is many nice bottles to choose from. Their Frika(or like in Italy Frico) is a decadent thing with Tolmin cheese and potato. The English roast beef used to be the signature dish at Hisa Franko since 1973, you have to try it! Another must is the Kobariški štruklji -Kobarid dumplings, we were all full but we couldn’t resist this warm buttery ”dumpling” with walnuts and spices.
The menu has a lot to offer, and you can even stay the night here!

Hiša Franko, Slovenia - An ordinary potato turned into a standout dish through pure creativity, proving that the simplest ingredients can create the most memorable dishes. Their hay-baked 55 gram mountain potato is served with a roasted yeast sour cream and honey to dip it in, and then you sprinkle a bit of the salty ”shell on top. I honestly love how the produce here is turned into unforgettable dishes by Ana Roš and her team.

A beautiful collaboration with Ana Roš and her team at Hiša Franko in Slovenia together with Eric Vildgaard of Jordnær from Denmark.
Two different kitchens creating a daring tasting menu together with 16 courses!
I can ensure you that there were an echo of lot’s of wow’s overheard all over the restaurant that evening. Eric and his team even served Kalix vendace roe on buckwheat, with a touch of Sweden. That made this Swede very happy.
Not only food, an impressive w**e and juice pairing by Hiša Franko. And the ”juice” pairing here is pretty unique, well balanced natural flavours! Kombucha and house infusions, as good as any w**e pairing!
Featured here is the dishes by the Jordnær team.

Eating sausage like an astronaut, yes it’s true!

In 2006 Sunita Williams, who has Slovenian heritage picked the sausage as her special food to bring to the International Space Station.

Order some different sausages and sides, and share.

Klobasa s sirom v testu - A sausage with cheese in dough and sauerkraut on top.

Once upon a time here was a watchmaker, today one of the most popular food restaurants in Ljubljana.

Dobro Jutro (Good morning) With a breathtaking view over the mountains we enjoy a breakfast for champions.
A seasonal, and regional experience that is pretty impressive if you ask me! And as Slovenia is close to Italy there can be Slovenian and Italian cheese on the table, cappuccino to wake me up, local cloudy apple juice, eggs the way you like them, berries, oat cookies, charcuterie and much more.
One of my favourite dishes on the table was the Frika, made with Tolminec cheese, a cheesy inside and crusty outside.
Milka has 6 rooms, and a breakfast you wanna wake up too!
