Federation of Malaysia Food and Restaurants Association (FRA) Attends Miss Malaysia Kebaya 2025 – Penang Chapter and Signs MoU to Promote Intangible Cultural Heritage Food and Cultural Tourism
Penang, 2025 – The Federation of Malaysia Food and Restaurants Association (FRA), as a collaborating partner, was invited to attend the Miss Malaysia Kebaya 2025 Roadshow – Penang Chapter held at Sunshine Central Mall, Penang. At the event, FRA formally signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Miss Malaysia Kebaya (MMK) and the Malaysia Fashion, Modeling & Pageant Association Industry Awards (MFMPA), witnessed by YB Wong Hon Wai (Penang State EXCO for Tourism & Creative Economy) and YB Lim Guan Eng (Former Chief Minister of Penang). Distinguished guests in attendance included YB Lim Siew Khim (Penang State EXCO for Social Development, Welfare & Non-Islamic Religious Affairs), Eezmadyna Azalin Binti Nordin (Director, National Department for Culture and Arts Penang), Ooi Chok Yan (CEO, Penang Global Tourism), and Lillian Tong (President, Penang Baba Nyonya Charity Association).
★The MoU signatories were:

FRA, as one of the signatories, led three outstanding member restaurants—NYOTHAI, DRE COKLAT, and the Michelin recommended Penang Road Famous Laksa in George Town (renowned for its traditional assam laksa with tangy seafood broth)—to join the collaboration. This partnership integrates traditional cuisine and costume culture to drive the growth of Malaysia’s culinary and tourism industries.
The “Discover Intangible Cultural Heritage Food” Project
Initiated by FRA, the “Discover Intangible Cultural Heritage Food” project aims to promote and preserve intangible cultural heritage through culinary traditions, transforming them into new highlights of Malaysian tourism.
Its core strategies include:
★Cultural Fusion Experiences: Integrating iconic traditional foods into cultural festivals, fashion shows, and other events to create immersive cultural experiences.

★Themed Culinary Tourism Routes: Collaborating with local restaurateurs and tourism bodies to design and promote themed food itineraries that connect cultural landmarks and culinary destinations.

★International Promotion: Leveraging Tourism Malaysia and Penang Global Tourism’s international channels to expand the global reach of Malaysia’s cuisine and cultural heritage.
★Online–Offline Synergy: Sharing culinary heritage stories through social media while organizing guided tours and interactive food exploration activities, creating a sustainable “experience–share–promote” cycle.
This project not only serves as a platform for safeguarding traditional food heritage, but also supports the upgrading of the culinary industry and enhances tourism competitiveness, building Malaysia’s image as a global destination where “Food is Tourism.”
FRA will continue to work closely with MMK and more member restaurants, using intangible cultural heritage as a bridge and adhering to international standards, to position Malaysia’s food and costume culture as a globally attractive tourism hallmark. Through a sustainable “heritage–tourism–prosperity” cycle, FRA aims to attract cultural travelers from around the world, showcasing Malaysia’s rich cultural identity and tourism appeal.

In 2025, the Federation of Malaysia Food and Restaurants Association(FRA) was invited to the Miss Malaysia Kebaya 2025 Roadshow Launch and Press Conference held at Friendscino, Damansara Perdana, where it formally signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Miss Malaysia Kebaya (MMK) and the Malaysia Fashion, Modeling & Pageant Association Industry Awards (MFMPA). The signing ceremony was witnessed by YBhg Datin Seri Mazreena Mohd Yusuf (Deputy Director of the Domestic & Events Division, Malaysia Tourism Promotion Board, representing Datuk Manoharan Periasamy) and Datuk Rashidi Hasbullah (Former Secretary-General of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia), with news coverage provided by BERNAMA (Malaysian National News Agency) and RTM (Radio Televisyen Malaysia). Centered on "intangible cultural heritage inheritance," this collaboration integrates traditional food and costume cultures to support the "Cuti-Cuti Malaysia" brand and "Visit Malaysia 2026" initiative, while aligning with UNESCO’s intangible heritage protection guidelines to build a new ecosystem of culture-tourism integration.

In support of "Visit Malaysia 2026," the partnership focuses on two key areas: first, jointly developing intangible heritage food tourism routes that connect heritage food experience sites, encouraging visitors to participate in community cooking workshops and festive food preparation, making "intangible heritage on the gourmet" a must-visit highlight; second, leveraging the Tourism Board’s international channels to integrate the "Discover Intangible Cultural Heritage Food" project into promotional efforts, attracting global cultural travelers, enhancing Malaysia’s international tourism profile, and showcasing UNESCO-aligned heritage protection practices to the world.

Under the slogan "Jom Eat and Travel Together," FRA will link online and offline initiatives: sharing intangible heritage food stories and launching interactive topics on social platforms online; organizing "group food tours" offline, where visitors, inheritors, and food influencers explore heritage food origins together. This "experience-share-promote" cycle creates business opportunities for heritage practitioners and enriches "Cuti-Cuti Malaysia" content.
